What do the words "rock" and "quarry" have in common?


A lot more than many may think.


Tickets are on sale for the fourth annual Concert in the Quarry on May 2, which features musicians from Styx, Night Ranger and Damn Yankees, as well as a performance by "American Idol" competitor Bo Bice.


Tickets are $40 for adults and $25 for students. Proceeds benefit the South Forsyth High School band program and Georgia Sheriffs' Youth Homes, a nonprofit care agency for abused and abandoned children.


South Forsyth band parent Glenn Kruse said students and parents are "very excited to have such a great variety of popular musicians perform."


Tommy Shaw from the rock band Styx -- known for such songs as "Mr. Roboto," "Come Sail Away" and "Lady" -- will perform at the quarry, as will Jack Blades from fellow '80s rockers Night Ranger, whose hits include "Sister Christian."


Blades and Shaw joined together in the early '90s to form the group Damn Yankees, which penned the power ballad, "High Enough."


Alabama native Bo Bice became famous following his appearance on Fox's televised talent contest, "American Idol," in 2005.


South Forsyth's wind ensemble will start the show about 7:30 p.m.


In addition to music, the night also features food and fireworks.


South Forsyth culinary arts students plan to cater at the concert, which will be held 300 feet below ground level at 3561 Peachtree Parkway.

Umm because Tommy Shaw didn't write (well he did write part of Come Sail Away, thats allready been documented but "technically its a DDY song) any of the songs listed?

I chuckled too..

Sounds like an error in phrasing to me... I think he was referring to Styx as having produced those songs and not Tommy himself - although the wording is a little ambiguous. Likely another case of a member of the media not being all that well informed - or just not very good at putting words to paper.

I am amazed at some of the utter crap that is posted here as fact. This probably takes the cake. Tommy did not write the majority of Come Sail Away. The "Come Sail Away" chorus part came from an MS Funk tune called Ain't Going Down or something like that (did Tommy even write that song?). The Odyssey or that middle part was partially composed by JY and partially composed by DDY.

So if you consider that a song is 50% lyrics and 50% music, you give 50% off the bat to Dennis for the lyrics. Now Dennis wrote the music to everything but the actual chorus and part of the Odyssey. The rest of the music is all Dennis. 3 Minutes of the song is the ballad part, maybe a 1:30 is the Odyssey part (that was co-written with JY) and another 1 minute and a half is the chorus. Even if I give you the entire chorus to Tommy, including the Gathering of Angels part (which is technically different from the main chorus), then you divide the musical 50% as follows: Dennis 62.5% (verse and 1/2 the odyssey) Tommy 25% chorus, JY 12.5% (1/2 the odyssey). Putting this together with the lyrics gets us the following breakdown - 81.25% Dennis, 12.5% Tommy, 6.25% JY.

Aww. Good defense, A.O. The problem is, facts are not a consideration for the postings of some...types of, well, whatever they are. Good try, though.

As to the original post of this thread, I, too, took it to mean simply the music produced by Styx. Generally the publicity mentions the hits and those are the hits. There's only one song in that group the Current Styx does not perform.

Well then based on your flawed logic (that was exposed btw), we need to give Dennis writing credit for Renegade since it was an acoustic ballad before he got his hands on it. Heck, maybe we should give John Panozzo writing credit since his drum solo live made that tune stand up more in concert and prime it to be the third single release off the album...
