wow, even I can't get behind this...

Note to Styx: PLEASE quit playing Miss America live. It's terrible.

More Note to Styx: PLEASE RELEASE A ALBUM OF NEW MUSIC. I probably won't go to another show until that happens.

I thought that was what you wanted. You complain about them doing Dennis' songs and complain about them not doing Dennis' songs. Other than bringing Dennis back, which do you want?

Froy you forgot Lorelei.. which Dennis didn't solely write.. its just as much a JY song as a Dennis song according to the songwriting credits..

You make it sound like the other members had nothing to do with the creation of DDY songs.

As I've never been to a Styx concert, if I were to hear this set list I couldn't really complain. :D

However, I've been on here long enough to know that this is the same set list they've been pulling out for a long time now so I can see why y'all are angry/upset/indifferent.

I heard a snippet of Miss America live, and it is not what I'd want to hear :? so in it's place I'd recommend [as I have for awhile now] either Young Man or Man of Miracles. Sadly this won't happen.

I'm also pretty bummed that all traces of Cyclo are missing, especially One With Everything. I'd also like to hear "Waiting For Our Time", but just like the aforementioned songs, it ain't happening. Oh, and just realized that there's no BotR. Damn, I'm going to miss that one!

I can't complain about .38 as I don't know them well enough to do so, and my only complaint with REO is no "In My Dreams", but I was already told a long time ago it ain't happening so, oh well.

At least they do the jam band at the end! That is something I truly cannot wait for! 8)

Froy why not attend your local block party and see DDY play the same 10 songs and 2 songs no one ever heard of instead of complaining about a Styx concert you will never see. At least I have been to see DDY in the past 2 years so I can give a real opinion. (which I’m sure you don’t want to hear) I have also seen Styx the past 2 years and to be honest I have no plans on seeing them again until they come up with a new CD. I’m not going to spend my money on the same old show again. I would love to hear your opinion and review of a Styx concert as soon as you see one. Until then …remember..You Can’t Stop Rock’n Froy!!

Wait. Styx plays the same songs they have for the last 10 years (albeit in a new order) and you take jabs at DDY's playlist? At least he's performing new material. I guess that means when Styx does a new recording (or should I say "IF" they do one) then they should just ignore their new stuff since nobody ever heard of right?

As it stands no, Styx is leaving off the song that got them their start now. I can see them not playing Babe... but Lady? Kinda strange if you ask me.

Based on the set list given, it appears DDY's stuff is in there. I'm not understanding all the hoopla here folks. It's a standard set list of hits. Yes some are missing, but it fits in the time amount they have to perform. They all have been nostalgia acts for quite a while now. If they are comfortable with it, then let em go make their living with it for as long as they can. All of them.

Sadie beat me to it! :D In defense of all of these kinds of acts, they are pure nostalgia now. Even a "newer" "hit" like Walrus, is a nostalgia cover song. It is surprising Styx has nothing from Cyclo in the set, but, again, they are playing the tried-and-true and the well-known. Nothing more. Nothing less.

DDY does the same thing, I agree, but he just has a lot more good stuff to choose from. Whether the songs from the new album stay in his set remains to be seen.

The kind of music played in these types of shows has been explained very well by DDY in numerous interviews.

Absolutely terrible on behalf of all three bands - although I've never seen 38 Special, but I wouldn't want to see them play for just 40 mins. I'm truthfully shocked REO isn't sliding at least one from Find Your Own Way Home.

I'm with you. Weak effort on Styx and REOs part. Sounds like they are mailin it in. Find Your Own Way Home has at least a couple of good concert tunes. Cyclorama is underated and should have at least one.

Saw 38 Special a few months ago and while they were OK...they were nothing "special." Other than Van Zant, they were going through the motions. Nothing compared to their hayday back in the early 80s.

I can't say I'll buy a ticket based on the setlist. The worst I have seen yet from REO/Styx. ZZZzzzzzzz.

...and I am usually very positive when it comes to these bands.

Me too, I really like both and have seen them both a bunch of times in the 00s. But, I can't justify this crappy setlist. Even on the Journey/Styx/REO tour a few years back, both Styx and REO managed to slide a few deep cuts in. This is just plain old boring.

Wow, this is pretty bad!
Watch the Return to Paradise DVD. You'll have way more fun!

I have been a Styx fan since I was 12. I am now 45. So that's 33 years. I've seen the real Styx about 30 times. I've seen the current Styx (the Tommy/JY band) about 5 times. And I've seen Dennis' show 3 times.
This current tour is coming right in my backyard next week. (Mt. View, Ca.) and I just have no motivation to go see it. I love Tommy and JY, but I just can't see spending 150 bucks for 2 tickets to go and see THAT playlist. And to be honest, I just don't get nearly as excited about a Styx Concert that doesn't include all 3 principle songwriters. I do enjoy Dennis' shows a bit more than the Tommy/JY band, but neither show comes close for me as a REAL Styx show would. If Dennis was back in the band, I would follow them around the country.

But you know what? The place will probably be sold out. 90% of the drunken, clueless crowd will have no clue Dennis isn't there! So Good for them. I hope they have fun. I wish I could get into it, but I just can't. This isn't Styx for me.

Im right there with you.
You are seeing a band that just does not know how to say its over.
Its funny Walrus is still in the set
Just goes to show how much Gowan brings to the table.
What a shame a great band of my youth destroyed by 2 guys filled with spite

I honestly think Tommy would be open to a reunion with Dennis. It's JY that seems to be holding the spite.
I do understand why he is mad. I just wish he could get over it for one last tour. Even without a tour, I would love to see 2 guys who have known each other and been through all they have been through together to at least make up somewhat and be friendly with each other. Life is too short to stay mad at people. Dennis would clearly have to make the first move, though.

I know there are people on this board that enjoy the new band. And I am happy they are getting enjoyment from them.
But I just can't handle Gowen singing Dennis' songs. I've seen them 5 times and cringed all 5 times. I just can't do it any longer. And it's not a knock on Gowan. I would cringe if ANYONE was singing one of Dennis' songs. Oddly enough, though, it didn't bother me nearly as much During the Edge tour when Glen was singing Tommy's songs.
I can't figure that one out. I love Tommy as much as Dennis, but a Dennis-led Styx seems more "real" to me than this current version of Styx. Maybe because I was following around Styx long before Tommy was in the band. It has always felt like Dennis' band to me.

I agree, because TS/JY are the ones in charge of who is in Styx now. However, something tells me that if DDY ever even got a slight inkling to talk to them, Susanne would do her best to talk him out of it. She definitely gets to me. While I was reading Sterling's book I was like "Great, another Yoko Uno"

I can't really gauge how everything will pan out over the next couple years. I definitely see the two factions coming together, but with DDY doing another musical, and Styx [I only guess, but I think it will happen] starting another album shortly down the road, I don't feel that it will happen before 2011, and I think even that would be generous.

Chuck seems for it though, maybe he could be the bridge?

80 minutes? Even though I'd love to see 38 Special, I am not to thrilled to see Styx play for that short amount of time either. I will be passing this tour over too.. I'll catch Styx playing just outside of Edmonton this September headlining for at least two hours.

Hopefully Dennis won't forget about the rest of Canada and play either the Calgary Stampede or Edmonton's Capital Ex this summer as well. I just hope that Dennis isn't going to charge over $100 ticket like he did the last time he was in Calgary.. I don't usually pass up Styx or Styx related shows, but I just couldn't see myself paying $100 to see Dennis. That wasn't the only reason I didn't go, but it played a big part of it.

I wonder if the poor turnout for him in Calgary in 07 has caused him not to come back to Western Canada..

Chuck tends to waffle back and forth about this. One day he can be reflective and even sentimental and say,"You know, a reunion would be cool, we should do it before the chance is lost." On another day he might be feeling bitter about the past and say, "I never want to see that guy again, he fucked us all over, blah blah blah . . ." it just depends on when you catch him. You know, he and Dennis have more history than anybody else involved, it's extremely complicated.

I hope all is well.
