Youse guys have a good time! Wish I could have gone to this one. It will be a rare treat indeed! Full reviews, please.

Hope Glen made it ok. Last tweet from him on Twitter was that he had a seat assignment on the 15th row of a plane that only had 13 rows.

Expect boots of the show so us who could not get off work or do not have the money can hear the show.

I really wish performers would put on their websites either free or to buy their concerts specials like this.

First, it was great to meet everyone in person finally. Thanks for the stuff, Mark! Sorry I had to run but my friend needed to get home and we needed to catch the train. We just made it in time.

When I get a moment I'll post pics and a formal review of the show on my site. This show was arguably the most interesting one I've seen Dennis do, and I've seen a lot over the years with various band configurations. And interesting good, not interesting bad. The set list doesn't necessarily reflect that, but trust me here. Anyone catching one of the 8 acoustic shows in Canada are in for a big treat.

Set list:
A.D. 1928/Rockin' the Paradise
Lady
Grand Illusion
Nowhere Man (Beatles cover)
One Hundred Years From Now
Desert Moon
Castle Walls (snippet)
All In a Day's Work
Mr. Roboto (and yes, it worked)
Save Me
Bam (song from Glen's Welcome to Hollywood)
Lorelei
Light Up
Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough (DDY not onstage)
Watching the World Go By (Son of Edge song; also on Glen's Palookaville)
Picnic Island (Jeff Watson solo guitar)
Suite Madame Blue
Babe
The Best of Times/A.D. 1958/The End (Beatles tune from the Abbey Road medley on side 2 of said album - bit of it thrown in; best part of the night for me musically how they worked it in - I think Suite and MtlLady saw how stunned I was when that happened)
Come Sail Away (with a bit of Gershwin's "Rhapsody In Blue" thrown in)

There was also another solo Jeff Watson instrumental earlier in the night but for some reason I can't remember where at the moment.

DDY also announced yesterday they taped an episode of A&E's Private Sessions (http://www.aetv.com/private-sessions/) which will air July 12th.

If circumstances had just been a little bit different, I woulda, coulda, shoulda met you all up there.

Thanks for the review and setlist, Allan. I am guessing there were some great harmonies going on.

And WooHOO to "Private Sessions"! I have been hoping/waiting for this.

I will be curious to watch the A&E show on the 12th. I just can't imagine how they pull off some of those songs acoustically. Rockin The Paradise? It's such an electric guitar based tune. Guess I will wait and find out on the 12th.

Not every song will be shown, needless to say. The program also includes interviews with the person they are showcasing.

If you look at the website for Private Sessions, Dennis is in VERY high level company indeed. :)

Froy -

Part of the fun is in how some of those songs are either re-interpreted or how they come off in this setting. A great example of that is "Roboto" and it worked. "Lady" didn't use the standard piano intro. I'm generally sick of the same songs, but this worked for me.

You also have to remember that while a show like this is a bit more "die hard" friendly than most, the bulk of his audience is still going to be the casual fan who wants to hear the hits. Had Dennis played too much of songs like "Father OSA", that set would have appaled to a very small portion of that crowd. I think they struck a decent balance last night.

It's so hard to please everyone. I loved the show, but I was sitting with 3 hardcore Styx fans who've seen tons of shows, band and solo, and they all complained that it wasn't the standard rock show. Even though they all knew it was going to be an acoustic show going in. If he'd deviated even further from the standards with the setlist, they really would have hated it. And these were hardcore fans. It's very tough to be an established artist and do something different.

Exactly my point. I mean, how many who say they are hardcore Styx fans even know "Father OSA"? Not that many. The only reason I wanted to go was because it was a non-standard show. I've seen the rock show plenty of times. Everyone has a different motivation for seeing a show, but the bottom line is a bit of nostalgia and a lot of fun. That fun generally means hits people know.

Ron's review on his site indicated Dennis joked with the audience for audience requests and as a result played about 30 seconds of Miss America based on a request. What was that like?

Pretty funny. Miss America came up a couple times. There was an audience member near the back making a lot of noise about it. Dennis played snippets of it at 2 points in the show. There was a moment when Dennis made mention of a Styx cover band in Canada and I thought he was going to make a crack about the current Styx, but he didn't.
There were also bits of Sweet Home Alabama, Sister Christian and Don't Tell Me You Love Me played at various points.

Isn't that the whole point - to see how songs get reworked? No different in concept than Clapton's reworking of Layla.

Why would anyone at a Dennis DeYoung concert ask about MISS AMERICA unless they were either looking for trouble or retarded? (and I realize the question is both rhetorical and redundant)

Im really tired of hearing this excuse over and over again
The casual fan
The hell with the casual fan
Styx fans know Goodbye to Roseland Father OSA Balerina ect
I am sick of hearing Grand Illusion Lorelei and Roboto
They are great songs but this is a unique show.
Dennis needs to get some balls and stop worrying about the casual fan.
The best show he ever did solo was The HOB Chicago Lost Treasures show.
It was loaded with rare tunes Best Thing Borrowed Time Im Ok ect
Nobody bitched about that.

Or they would have said WOW that song was great
Just like it is.
Hello God would have been a great one
Esmerelda another
No its The Grand Illusion again forget it

Dennis was clearly annoyed because the guy kept on shouting it. He played the main riff a few times just to shut that person up. But it was VERY clear Dennis was not amused.

I forgot about the Sweet Home bit (which was like a minute long), but the two NR songs were just small riff type stuff played by Jeff and no one else. That was early in the show.

Hate to tell you Froy, this show was NOT billed as a Lost Treasures show. It was billed as an acoustic show, and as such, I wasn't expecting songs like "Father OSA". I was expecting some surprises (maybe 1 or 2, and got that), maybe some Glen singing lead (got that), and most of the hits somewhat reworked (got that). At this point, I would rather hear Dennis pull out "Don't Wait for Heroes" or "Call Me" instead of another Styx cut (except maybe "Best Thing", "Pieces of Eight", or "I'm OK" again).

Oh, and in this show you got the one thing fans have been bitching about for years: Dennis played piano. No hired guns.

That HOB show was one of Dennis' best (in the top 5), but IMO not his best that I've seen. In no particular order: Rye Playland, first orchestral show at the Rosemont, the BB Kings acoustic show, the HOB show, and the first show with Glen at the State Theater in NJ.
