you know, he is not that much different personality wise than DDY.

Corny sense of humor...
Exaggerated stage antics....
Very theatrical....

They are more similar than they are different...

This guy's funny. You may not like (or perhaps you would if he didn't replace a key member of one of yer fav bands) but he's funny and creative.

I personally LOVE his version of Salty Dog. Great song.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Also totally agree. In the times I've seen Larry either live or on video, HE'S the one with personality. Todd and Ricky don't speak at all (or rarely). JY is too busy being a grump and Tommy although a nice guy doesn't have that Adult ADD/Switch Gears ability that Larry does.

Do I wish DDY was still in Styx? Sure. But he ain't and in the meantime with the exception of 'One With Everything', Salty Dog, Don't Need No Doctor, Walrus, Fields of the Brave and More Love For the Money are the best things to come out of the Styx camp in the past 10 years.

I too see were Dennis and Larry have the same stage act. But Larry is not coping Dennis. Dennis seems to be happy doing what he does. LArry seems to be happy doing what he does (being his own person). And Froy seems to be ahppy bashing Larry, the only thing he knows how to do.
It was LArry who ruined Styx? It was each and every member that ruined the group, by acting like kids in their own sandbox. And I do not think Styx is ruined. True it is not what it once was, but it is still a group singing and having fun, and entertaining people. And they are getting paid to do it. Are you Froy, getting paid to bash? Everytime I go to Styx show, people are loving it. When I saw DDY people were loving it, and both camps were having a fun time.
Its been 10 years move on, find something else to grip about. I wasn't happy about DDY leaving at first either. I have moved on and realized whinning is not going to cahnge anything. I wish Perry or Augeri was back in Journey. But I have seen Journey without them, and loved the show.

Really Dennis can sing Gowan can't
Gowan spins his computerized keyboards around in circles for 10 years
Dennis just laughs at that

But Larry is not coping Dennis.

Sure he is he is coping his songs or whatever is left in the setlist.

Yep very happy

I would agree that the best work to come from Styx since DDY left have NOT been from Tommy Shaw or JY (with the exception of JY's one track on Cyclorama). It's been from Glen Burtnik and Lawrence Gowan. Ironically, it was Gowan who sung the one song that got of twinge of airplay since DDY left (Walrus).

I actually like Gowan. I am not a fan of his voice, but as a person he is only doing what he has been paid to do. He seems personable enough and seems like a genuinely nice guy. I think his piano playing is excellent and that he is overall an excellent musician. I actually like the songs that he writes for the most part - they are more classically based (again, like DDY) - his voice is the only thing that I find a bit annoying. In fact, I would go on record saying that if the fences are ever mended and a reunion occurred that I wouldn't mind a bit if Gowan played keys letting DDY take more of the front of the stage. Gowan could also do Walrus too.

In this incarnation of Styx he's really the only one with much of a personality at this point.

Come on Froy, that's not his fault. By the way, I'm not sure I understand the post, but all those songs are great if you ask me. Doctor is such a rocking tune. Yeah, they didn't write it, but they didn't write "Not Dead Yet" and "Lies" and I still dig those tracks.

I love what Gowan's brought to the party.

It is an act, I am not talking about singing.
SO what if some of Larry's keys are recorded, Dennis very seldom plays the keys anymore (which is a shame, and I unsdertand why he stopped.)
But as far as the act, yes they are cut from the same cloth.

You forgot the ? after It was Larry who ruined Styx? It was a question. As I said it was everyone who brought Styx down, and that was first in 81, then in 98.

Styx is not ruined to me, they are not as good as they once were, but still put out good music.

Froy,
Popularity and being good are too different things. Just because it is a number one song does not means it good. Just because it doesn't get on the radio, doesn't mean it bad.
If that's the case then 100 Years from now would suck!!! But it doesn't it is very, very good.

How many high school presidents and such actually are the best once school is over and done with?

One reason I don't listen to the radio, most of what they play bits. Past few years it has gotten better, but still has a long way to go.

You are right about everything you just posted
Fact is U2 sold out everywhere and they are popular
ACDC sold 6 million cds they are popular
Styx is not popular and they play the same show for the last 10 years
How in the hell can you defend a band like that?
STYX will never ever be popular again unless Dennis returns and they make a smash cd .
With Gowan its over never to return to paradise,
