Hello:

Wanted to let everyone know that Part Three of my recent in-depth interview with Todd Sucherman and Lawrence Gowan is now playing at We Will Rock You http://www.wewillrockyoublog.com/2009/0 ... art-three/

In this segment we discuss the opinions of Internet fans; Glen Burtnik leaving Styx and Ricky Phillips coming in; Glen Burtnik moving on to play with Dennis DeYoung; perception of competition between Styx and Dennis DeYoung; the possibility of a new Styx album; changes in the music business and how that affects Styx; and Todd’s instructional DVD and recent wins in the Modern Drummer polls.

Thanks!

Sterling

I was curious about a future album, but I took away from that a lot of dancing around the subject, no?

Thanks for posting the links, Sterling.

You're welcome. Thanks for listening. The impression I got is simply that they don't really know what's going to happen. Apparently enough material to make an album, but no idea when or in what form that material may be released. A lot of bands from that era are in that same boat because of how the business is.

I hope all is well.

Great! Those guys were a lot of fun. Some of what's still coming up is very, very funny, so stay tuned. I'm glad you like it. I'm interviewing former Yes/King Crimson/Earthworks drummer Bill Bruford on Wednesday and that series will start to post soon as well.

No offence but who cares what these 2 fillins have to say
Get Shaw and JY on and ask the questions
Not Gowan who cares about Gowan

No offense accepted. Evidently just over nine hundred people in the last few days care what Lawrence and Todd have to say. If I keep getting traffic like this building through the last parts of this series it will have been viewed by more than two thousand people by the end of this week. This particular series has been building exponentially every day.

On a side note, it's funny you should post that because I asked Todd and Lawrence about their reaction to extreme Internet fans, LOL.

Thanks, I hope all is well.

Sterling,

You're (notice it's the contraction of 'you' and 'are' :D ), doing a great job. That's something I'm sure you are well aware of. Keep up the great work.

Their reaction was more like, 'Yeah, who cares, you can't drive yourself crazy over it,' LOL. More of a non-reaction, technically. I really do get the sense they've gotten past all that finally. I hope so.

I hope you are well.

Thanks! Honestly I have done so many interviews that it can be hard for me to gauge sometimes whether a particular one has turned out well or not. With this one I was having some borderline technical problems through a lot of it, and as a result, when it was finished I wasn't sure what we'd gotten. In listening back to it I've been pleasantly surprised, but as always, I give all the credit to the interview subjects, in this case Todd and Lawrence. If there's anything of value there, it's because of them. I just ask the questions, LOL.

Thanks again!

I finally got to listen this mornig a bit, nice job Sterling. One note, I think it was during the second interview, where they spoke aobut rerecording some of the songs for the game and the challenge of making it sound like the original. I thought I caught a little attitude from Gowan when he spoke of "they" wanting to make the harmonies sound as much like the original as possible. More than likely the people putting the game together are not big fans of the band and not familiar with the fact that one of those harmonies is no longer in the band. After a few playbacks they probably thought WTF. Intersting take from Todd as well on how he had to listen to the original recordings and play like John.

Great interview. That drum clip at the bottom is also way cool!
