Until you have 100% proof Toph that anyone in the Styx or Deyoung camp uses backing tapes, how about you mind your own business?

He has most certainly landed in a perfect situation. I am no fan of his voice or of his stage persona, but you can't argue that he and Ricky and Todd are certainly playing in some green pastures now and running with some moderately big dogs.

A posted said that that happened at a recent show. I'm just quoting what I heard. Talk to him about it.

All I know is that it is completely pathetic and unprofessional to use backing tapes to vocals. And it further exemplifies the disgrace that the touring band has become.

And I have no doubt that that is really ALL you "know."

Really can't believe it has been 10 years
the way some carry on, it seems like yesterday.
But glad to see he is having fun and the band carrying on.

I don't think they are using tapes for backing vocals, and if they did it a very common thing now adays. I am not a big fan of it it, but it would not stop me from enjoying a concert with them. I know Journ ey did it as far back as the early 80's.

I can only comment on my own experience seeing this band. At the Ryman in support of BBT, there were certainly no triggered backing vocals, nor any triggered keys. If you were going to sing to pre-recorded tracks, I assume those tracks would be in tune, LOL, and Lawrence had some small tuning problems that night. It was live all the way. And as it stands I don't believe this band needs to do that. Styx has always been a band capable of re-producing its recorded work live, in all its lineups. I don't think that changes because of the absence of one person, no matter who that person is.

Now if this were true, which I won't believe until somebody shows me tangible proof, then I would certainly never pay to see the band again, or see it free for that matter. But I'm not worried because I don't believe there's even a small chance this is true.

Lawrence puts on an incredible show, and has taken the band to new levels. Yes, his voice isn't quite as impressive as Dennis's, but he's an excellent performer, has absolutely incredible piano skills, and has made the Styx songs his own. He's an all around better performer than Dennis, whose only strong point is his voice. I like Dennis on CD, but in the live setting, Lawrence blows him away!!

I hope Larry's success in the past ten years continues into the next ten years and beyond!

Have to agree, as much as I'm annoyed by the spinning keyboard I'd rather watch Lawrence than Dennis. I'd rather listen to Dennis but watching him is so painful.

Watching Brian Wilson is painful with the "prop" keyboard. Watching DDY is not painful, and in my opinion, has developed into a frontman these past 10 years because he had to. When he shared the spotlight with JY and Tommy, while he did sing lead on quite a bit, he never had to be the lone gunman.

I find Gowan can be just corny as Dennis ever was in Styx. That's not a bad thing, just an observation.

Both are good performers who bring their own unique style to their respective bands. What you like is your interpretation of that. I find them to be more similar than different.
