Yes. DDY's drummer. Was on his 100 Years CD and the live CD as well. A totally sweet, lovely guy. Just heartbreaking to hear this. I guess more details are forthcoming?

I met him once. He seemed like a really good guy. He reminded me of Kurt Cobain.
What happened? He looked real young.

My sincere condolences to Kyle's family & friends, as well as the DeYoung family for their loss. I'm in total disbelief. What happened?

I haven't seen or heard anything at this point either. I'm sure it won't be too long before more information is posted. What terrible news.

I too am in shock.
When Suite introduced me to him and others in DDY's band ( 3 to 4 years ago ) I sat and talked to Kyle, Tim O. and Matthew De Young for about an hour before & during the sound check. I actually talked to Kyle the most. After the show too.
WOW, me deepest regrets & condolences to those close to him.
Was he married? Kids?
I am truly sorry.

I know he has a son (I think his name is Tabor) but that's all I know.

You should have the picture of you and Kyle. It's a nice picture before the concert in Rice Lake. (If you don't I have it)
I remember he did talk for quite a while
Great guy.
He has a son Tabor, if I remember the same age as my oldest which is 13 years old.

He was the only member of the band, including DDY

, that stopped to give my 9 year old daughter an autograph when they were in town a few years ago. The rest just trucked right on by with barely a glance.
May he rest in peace and our thoughts and prayers go to his family.

Wow ... shocking. I was not a total fan of his drumming in spots (such as the "Castle Walls" fills), but he did seem like a nice guy. He wasn't old at all. RIP.

I was thinking about Kyle's passing ... I've been feeling pretty mortal lately, and stuff like this puts it all in perspective. I think it was very cool of Dennis to put it on the front page of his site.
Also in the news yesterday - Phil Collins can't play drums anymore:

Not a good drumming week.

So much for the full blown Genesis Reunion idea with Gabriel back in front and Phil on the Drums full time again.

Actually, it was from Jim Peterik's fan page. It mentions in the note that Kyle played with Peterik, but the person writing the note says he never met Kyle personally.
It was well-written, tho I'm torn as to whether it was appropriate to disclose the specifics of Kyle's death before anyone in Kyle's family has. Actually, I'm not that torn. I don't think it was appropriate.

The specifics were in todays Chicago Sun Times also.

Oops. Didn't read closely enough. And yes, the story was in the Sun-Times. I felt as though the writer took a positive approach, which I liked, respecting Kyle's work.

The obit goes as far to say how he was found (I won't post it here, but you can search
http://www.suntimes.com). Given what is said, suicide is still TBD but given how it was described, what other conclusion can you draw?
Clearly he had some inner demons. I think no matter what side of the Styx/DDY debate you sit on, this is (pardon my French) fucked up.

Was he still DDY's touring drummer, had Dennis replaced him or had he left Dennis recently?

He did some, but not all of the dates due to his other commitments. When I saw DDY last summer in Naperville, it was the other guy (forget his name ... sorry!), but Kyle's played with him after that.

Kyle's brother posted the cause of death on Kyle's facebook page yesterday. So in that, the family did disclose it. Just an FYI.

Tom Sharpe fills in when Kyle wasn't able to make it due to his Jersey Boys gig.
