According to some sources, it appears that Sing For The Day/Renegade was a single in which both sides charted (Renegade #16, SFTD #41). I've also seen that SFTD was the "A side" and Renegade was the "B side". Does that mean that the record company was really promoting SFTD and then Renegade as the B side came out of nowhere to eclipse SFTD and be the big hit on that single? I was only 9 at the time that record came out, so I didn't understand the nuances on how singles became hit records, but evidently in that time there were double A sides and B sides that became hits. How exactly did that happen?

And one other question - why wasn't the title track released off PO8? You would have thought that a similar song to CSA in style would have done well and would have been the first single on the record. Interesting to try to figure out the thought process.

Yup

You are correct, "Sing For The Day" was the second single issed from "POE". The original b-side was actually "Queen Of Spades". Why the change? I can only speculate, but maybe "Sing For The Day" wasn't living up to expectations on the chart, and meanwhile DDY and company were more and more impressed with the reception to "Renegade" in concert, so they decided to do a double a-side with "SFTD" and "Renegade";meaning that either song could make the charts. As I said, just a guess.

There were also times that a b-side might just happen to chart without the expectation of it being a double sided single, but I seriously doubt "Renegade" was ever intended to just be a b-side.

renegade was always thought of as a "hit"....i dont have all of the details about how it was released but according to the things I have read....they knew it was gonna be the "the song" from that album.
