Feuding rockers Aerosmith looking for new singer

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Who wants to become the new singer for Aerosmith?

The lead guitarist with one of America's most successful rock groups said on Monday that he and his bandmates were "positively looking for a new singer to work with," following a rift with energetic frontman Steven Tyler.

Joe Perry, 59, made the announcement on his Twitter page, ratcheting up an unusually public feud with his songwriting partner of 40 years.

The duo, dubbed the "Toxic Twins" for their hard-living days of yore, wrote such classic-rock staples as "Walk this Way" and "Love in an Elevator." Their musical relationship has been likened to that of their role models, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones.

But Tyler, 61, recently said he wants to concentrate on solo endeavors, a claim he has made in the past but never followed through on. He also stopped communicating with the rest of the band several months ago, and hired his own manager.

Perry told Reuters last month that Tyler has refused to write a song with him for a decade. More recently, Perry said that the last time he phoned Tyler, the singer hung up on him.

Incredibly, the band has still managed to perform concerts, but a summer trek through North America was cut short in August when Tyler fell off the stage and broke his shoulder. None of his bandmates accompanied him to the hospital.

"BRAND TYLER"

In recent weeks, Aerosmith reunited for a pair of shows in Hawaii, and then performed at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on November 1, temporarily papering over the cracks to recoup some of the revenue lost by the canceled American tour.

But Tyler surprised his bandmates by telling Britain's Classic Rock magazine, in an article published last Wednesday, that he would focus on his own projects, "Brand Tyler," as he dubbed it.

His bandmates were less than enthusiastic about being sidelined. In the same article, guitarist Brad Whitford raised the possibility of bringing in a new vocalist.

Tyler was "one of a kind," it quoted Whitford as saying. "But if somebody was willing to do it and the chemistry was right, why not?"

Perry quickly took to Twitter to express his dismay at learning about Tyler's apparent departure online, and he described Tyler's attitude as "a bit cold."

In his Twitter messages on Monday, in which he referred to Tyler simply as "one of the members," Perry denied Aerosmith would break up, saying the band was playing "hotter than ever."

"You just can't take 40 years of experience and throw it in the bin!"

At any rate, Perry is now focusing on his own endeavors. He just released his fifth solo album, and plans an extensive world tour early next year.

Aerosmith previously fell apart in 1979, when Perry quit the band during its drug-fueled nadir. Whitford soon followed, leaving the rest of the band to limp along. The original lineup reconvened in 1984, sobered up, and eventually enjoyed a successful 1990s comeback fueled by MTV videos.

But the band has not released a studio album of new material since 2001. Recording sessions since then have been interrupted by ailments affected virtually every band member. For his part, Tyler did a stint in rehab last year.

While Perry has been vocal about the feud, Tyler has largely kept silent. But his daughter, Mia, also took to Twitter on Monday to defend him and to make a dig at Perry.

"They are in their 60s now," she wrote. "Let them do what they wanna do! & can someone please tell (Joe Perry) that gossiping on Twitter is uncalled (for)!"

The online encyclopedia Wikipedia wasted no time marking the personnel shift. Tyler is now mentioned among the former members.

Looks like Styx and Journey are going to have some company on hiring different lead singers.

Oh and Journey is not looking for a new lead singer - Arnel Pineda is giving them all sorts of press, and he sounds good too.

Rumor has it Gowan is about to front Aerosmith.

Look for Steve Augeri to be Styx's new front man.

Styx has also agreed to throw in Chuck for a guitar player to be named later. :?:    :?:

I'm still thankful that I didn't fork out 200 dollars to see the "Abortion that lived" tour with ZZ Top this past summer.. There was some bad mojo right from the very beginning on that tour.

Now one has to wonder just how pissed up Steven was during those shows in the middle east and Hawaii...

I can just imagine what the Aerosmith fan club boards are like this week..

Steven Tyler: I'm Not Leaving Aerosmith

http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/20 ... aerosmith/

Relax, Aerosmith fans: Steven Tyler says he isn't leaving the band.

Tyler made a surprise appearance with guitarist Joe Perry and his band Tuesday night at a New York City venue. Tyler told the crowd: "I am not leaving Aerosmith."

Rolling Stone and Billboard magazines report the two then launched into their song "Walk This Way."

The appearance seemed to put an end to speculation about the band's future.

Perry recently tweeted that Aerosmith was "looking for a new singer to work with" and told the Las Vegas Sun that Tyler had quit, as far as he could tell.

The 61-year-old Tyler was injured when he fell off a stage during an Aug. 5 performance in South Dakota, and the band canceled the remainder of its summer tour.

Perry: Steven Tyler taking time off from Aerosmith

NEW YORK – Aerosmith's guitarist Joe Perry says the future of the band is still uncertain.

Perry said Wednesday that he thinks front man Steven Tyler wants to take some time off from the band — even though the two appeared together on a New York stage.

"As it stands, Steven wants to take a couple years off and do some of whatever he wants to do and the rest of the band wants to keep working," Perry said in a telephone interview.

"The band is a really well-oiled machine and we're going to work one way or another and I don't know what form that's going to take," he added.

Tyler's publicist, Kim Estlund, said the 61-year-old rock star was not going to issue a statement on Perry's recent comments.

The status of the band — which also includes Joey Kramer, Brad Whitford and Tom Hamilton — has been the topic of rumors since Tyler was quoted as saying he was considering a solo career. Perry tweeted late Monday that Aerosmith was "not splitting up" but "looking for a new singer to work with."

The rumors of a potential break-up seemed to be quashed Tuesday night when Tyler joined Perry and his band for their encore at a concert in New York City. According to Rolling Stone and Billboard magazines, Tyler told the crowd: "I am not leaving Aerosmith" and then he and Perry performed "Walk This Way."

But in his interview, Perry said he was stunned to hear that Tyler was outside his dressing room as he rested before the encore. He said he hadn't been in recent contact with Tyler.

"He was the last person I expected to see," Perry said. "You never know with him. Every time I figure I've got him sussed, he always does just the opposite."

Of Tyler, Perry added: "I think over the last few years he's just kind of drifted away from the band's goals and plans, and really without communicating that stuff to the guys."

Do some of you worry that, apart from showing a complete lack of class, it might be bad karma to make fun of anyone's medical condition - even if its Dennis Deyoung. By making fun of photophobia, you aren't just making fun of Dennis Deyoung - but everyone else who has this condition that HASN'T kept Tommy from rockin'. In any case, photophobia is real and is sometimes debilitating. It can lead to reclusiveness, extreme pain, blindness, and suicide. Here is a link:

Its not about having a sense of humor (which, if it was a funny joke to begin with would be an argument) its about a sort of hypocrisy with regards to Dennis Deyoung. I have a feeling if someone made fun of Tommy' alcoholism, Chuck's sickness, or anything else they would get slammed (and rightly so) but it seems like because JY makes fun of Dennis's light sensitivity, its fair game for everyone to do it.

...and why does everything keep getting so damn right wing on this board? Can we talk about Dennis Deyoung without it going to Obama's health care?

Now, I eyeroll!!!

And BTW, "photophobia" is not a phobia in the classic sense - it is a biological reaction to light - not a fear of light. It is a real condition. I hope you never have to deal with it. I have a feeling you wouldn't be so callous. It honestly destroys people's lives.

Can you use that "showing us the light" joke again? Clever once, clever twice, HILARIOUS thrice!

First of all, how the fuck am I a troll? You were the one that turned this political. All I said was that people shouldn't make fun of medical ailments because JY does.

I've never said anything about the light bulb. But thats what you Rush Limbaugh types like to do. You like to mock what you don't understand. The light bulb is just fine with me and probably Barrack Obama. Its not fine for Dennis Deyoung because he has a condition called "photophobia" which, in your infinite wisdom, have declared to be some sort of liberal made-up disease.

...and I'm a troll why????

I have the greatest bootleg video of Bill and Hillary Clinton with Eleanor McGovern ( George's wife ) singing Blue Collar Man. They sang this on the Arsenio Hall show back when Bill had just become President.

I believe the money they were hoping to raise off this was to help Hillary kick off her health care initiative.

A funny thing happen and the lights went out half way through the song so it didnt turn out the way they had hoped. It was never released to the public, her health care plan tanked, and all was lost until now.

If I can find it I will post it here for all of you to download. It really is quite good even the last 2 minutes or so that is totally in the dark.
