New Years' Eve Concert in Niagra Falls

Two years ago, Dennis and his band were the headliner act for the New Year's concert in Niagra Falls, Ontario, Canada, with Honeymoon Suite.
This year Styx is the headliner act for the same New Year's concert in Niagra Falls, Ontario, Canada, with Glass Tiger.
I could say something about Styx finding a Symphony and recording a DVD two years after Dennis did, but I'll let it go for now.
Not that I don't enjoy Styx, I still do very much. It's just that the copycat thing seems to be too obvious to explain any other way.

Right, Styx waited two years for their chance to copy DDY with a *gasp* show on New Year's Eve.

I bet they were just sitting around looking at DDY's tour schedule and dreaming of when they could headline a show on New Year's Eve just like he did.
Stop making ridiculous statements.

Sorry friend, it's a free country, I'm allowed my opinion. And you're allowed yours.

Styx has played the Fairview Casino at Niagra Falls many times (I don't think Dennis has played the Casino, just the NYE show) so its probably due to their previous relationship with the casino that they were booked to do the NYE show. The Casino (not Styx) probably said "hey, Dennis played, so why not we book Styx? And I'm sure this was in the works many months ago.
I don't really think its a copycat thing, but I can see why some would think that..
Both put on great shows and BOTH artists were consistantly interupted by commercials!
As for what they played ( from what I saw, I turned it on around 9:10 my time ):
Criminal Mind
Fooling Yourslef
Come Sail Away
Renegade
Happy New Year!

Yeah, but yours makes absolutely no sense. You really think Styx counted down the days until they could play a show at Niagra Falls on New Year's Eve just like DDY did? Because that's what you're implying by saying that "the copycat thing seems too obvious to explain any other way."
And you should try to have some understanding of the booking process. I would bet a lot of money that the
venue asked
Styx to play on New Year's Eve and made it worth their while monetarily. Bands rarely seek out venues.

...snip....
The timing of the commercials was absolutely awful. I know commercials are one of those necessary evils for tv stations but the constant interruptions in the middle of songs didn't seem very fair to the band or any fans watching. It was cool to see Chuck come out towards the end though. It was so cold even Todd was wearing a jacket!

Well Keith mentioned on facebook that there were heaters around the stage.. I was told it was around 30 degrees or so in Niagra Falls (-2 to -5 Celsius) so it wasn't "that" cold, but tack on windchill and the guys sweating on stage, and the body temperatures do drop.
I can see why they were wearing jackets by the end of the show!

I didn't really see this NY Eve concert as copycat so much as one more example of two very viable Styx-related interests once again crossing paths.
I am sure Dennis was asked to perform on the strength of his platinum selling DVD and CD, plus the No. 1 song he had posted for that part of Canada. He seems to be quite popular up there all by himself.
Styx was asked on the strength of the name and, I am sure, because Gowan is now a part of the group.
I know Dennis had a huge crowd, as this celebration draws big numbers every year. I don't doubt Styx had a big crowd as well.
And there is no doubt that both Dennis and his former group each respectively froze their asses off at that particular event.

Yes - The timing of the commercials was really bad. Criminal Mind and at least one other song were cut mid song to go to commerical. It was the only way to fit 6 songs into 1 hour.
Of all the guys Tommy looked by far to be the coldest and downright uncomfortable. The chicago guys and gowan looked fine. I have no idea where Ricky is from originally but the guy was wearing some heavy duty full length weird coat so he seemed ok too.

I was at this performance. Their full setlist was:
Blue Collar Man
Lorelei
One With Everything
I Am The Walrus
Crystal Ball
Suite Madame Blue
Miss America
The Grand Illusion
A Criminal Mind
Too Much Time On My Hands
Fooling Yourself
Come Sail Away
Renegade
Tommy mentioned needing to wait for his fingers to thaw out before starting Crystal Ball

Thanks for that link. (I know this is the Styx board, but did you happen to get any of Glass Tiger with your cell? - specifically Thin Red Line?) The TV coverage was not so great, as usual - this annual thing in Niagara kicks butt, but they always go to commercial halfway through a song - don't know why they can't just broadcast the whole thing

Gowan is just nowhere near as talented as DeYoung. That song
needs Dennis. His voice makes that song come alive. Gowan's doesn't. Still a good performance, though.

You should probably clarify that to say Gowan's voice isn't nearly as talented as Dennis's voice. Gowan is extremely talented especially as a keyboardist/pianist. He also has ten times the stage presence of Dennis. Dennis needed to stay behind the piano/keyboard. As far as his voice, I agree.

I guess by "stage presence" you mean spinning a keyboard and acting, in general, like a fist fucking shithead.
Outside of that, I'd say DDY might be a better showman.
Douche...
