caught in the act DVD question

i broke out my caught in the act concert yesterday.....I had not watched it in a long time but i have watched it probably 50 times over the years......anyway, i have always wondered, there are a couple times during the show that JY goes over to dennis and bends over and appears to nearly touch his face to the keyboard.

i'm wondering.....was he snorting coke? if not, anybody got any ideas what it is he is doing?

i'm not trying to pass judgment just curious.

Now THAT'S funny! I haven't watched the video in years, but come on! If he was still doing coke then, I would think he would prefer to do it the men's room, or backstage somewhere, but not on an electric piano.

I kinda think jy was sober by then, but do you really think he would even try to snort some coke during the middle of the show? I think that would be the last thing on his mind

He's not even really at the keyboard, he's standing by it, and all he's doing is leaning over and then kinda rearing back, then repeating the gesture. You know, kinda moving around the way people do in a rock show. Trying to be visually entertaining while playing a boringly repetitive part, that's my theory for what he's doing, just like Dennis goofing around pretending to hide behind the keyboard at some points.

Also, JY admits to having tried cocaine but to my knowledge was never a regular user. That's Tommy you're thinking of. And even if JY had been into coke he wouldn't have tried to do it off Dennis' keyboard. Dennis was very vocally adamant in his anti-drug stance and everyone knew it.

Hey loser, check your Styx history. "Light Up' was originally supposed to be a tribute to the Beatles and then the lyrics were changed when they got invited to play a pot festival. Personally, I would love to have heard what the song sounded like as a tribute to the Beatles and I probably would like the song more than I do with the somewhat amateurish lyrics that ended up being Light Up. And I do believe, DDY smoked the occasional joint I believe until his nervous breakdown in 1976 at which point he never touched a drug again. If he plays it today in concert, he makes it more of a satire to reggae with even the last verse have a reggae inflected groove.

And Tommy wanted THIS live version of THAT to be the third single off Kilroy instead of HWBHB....what a moron...way to kill an album. The drugs must really have been kicking in at that point....How many hit singles did this guy blow anyway? (blow being the operative word...)

i hear what you are saying but when i watch the video it looks like he physically touches the keyboard with his face....in fact, dennis kind of "on purpose" moves out of his way. I 100% agree that it seems very unlikely that he would be doing coke in this manner and especially for it to appear on a released home video that it could have been editied out of....but dang it sure looks pretty weird to me.

the thing I find funny is that a few of you want to dismiss my question as if I am way out of line or ignorant. If you look at my post history I have never been someone to ever "stir things up"....I try to be respectful when I post etc...

I have been a styx fanatic since I was 5 years in 1975 because my brother listened to them daily and i liked what I heard. I apoligize if my question has offened anyone.......I just thought that a forum diedcated to styx might be the proper place to ask a question that I have wondered about for years. I respect the opinion of those of you who think it is impossible to think JY was doing that. I also respect Sterling's opinion since he probably knows more than any of us due to his book research (which by the way your book was great).

BUT, nearly everyone that has ever watched that video with me that has noticed JY doing that has asked me out loud things like "dude, what's he doing....it looks like he snorting coke or something". I have always said no way myself......but in watching the video again the other day it raised the question again because it still looks really weird to me....sorry.

Don't apologize to this crowd for that. We can't even get losers who accuse Styx of lip synching to apologize when they are proven wrong. Tommy is generally regarded as the one who had the major drug problem, but this is a band that had it's major success in the 70's. I'm sure that no one was drug free during the whole period. With all of the Dr Righteous and Snowblind backwards messages going on, it wouldn't suprise me if that was JY's idea of a joke.

Two things:

1. Tommy plays a damn good guitar solo and he does it without using the bridge pickup on his Strat which is very Claptonesque.

2. Tommy does his Cookie Monster voice showing us he could have gone the death metal route if he'd have wanted to.

What's not to love?

LOLZ! I think the king of the Cookie Monster voice has got to be Jon Bon Jovi. Or at least some sort of constrained, manufactured rocker voice he decided long ago that he needed to use in order to BE a rocker.
