Light Up Logic...

The Light Up lyrics have flawed logic...

Everyday's a holiday
When your lips meet mine
The music's keeping time
With our love...

Question - is he talking about a joint? (lips meet mine) or is he talking about a woman?

You are here so am I
The weather's quite divine
So pass me around your wine
Lovely One

OK - he must be talking about a woman since a joint can't pass you wine...but why does he need wine in the context of the song? Shouldn't it be pass me around your joint, lovely one?

All I need is just one hit
To get me by
'Cause baby when you're here
I'm halfway high...

Now, is he asking for a hit of wine? Never heard anyone take a hit of wine? So, is he wanting a hit off a joint? So, why doesn't he say joint instead of wine? And if he is with a woman that makes him halfway high...why does he need the wine anyway? Or is the joint making him halfway high? Is this a love song to a woman or to a joint...but again, joints can't pass you around some wine....my head hurts....

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the joint. He just doesn't wanna mention it by name (probably a good move imo)

Or, by just one hit, he means, "Lady". 8)

If you get a chance, listen to the old concert boots from the 1970's. Listen to what word is changed.

Also listen closely to the very end of the song what is said. You can hear it clearly with headphones.

Don't forget this song was written in the 70's.

Fine, I get all that...But I am going to be a bit critical of Dennis (note, as a DDY fan, I can be critical of him).....My criticism - given his anti-drug work - Rock Against Drugs - saying in interviews that he doesn't take drugs and that is why his voice has held up so well, etc, isn't it a bit hypocritical for him still to be promoting this song so much in concert and on his live albums?

I mean according to Sterling's book, he stopped marijuana in 1976 after he had eaten some marijuana brownies made by Suzanne (Suzanne!!) and evidently freaked out in an airport before the start of the Crystal Ball tour and blamed the marijuana brownies for that. I've never had a marijuana brownies and don't have any clue why someone would actually eat marijuana, but that's another story. the point i, he believes that MJ caused him to have the nervous breakdown and laid off of it from then on...but yet he still is encouraging his audience to "Light Up"? Something just doesn't jive....DDY fans explain to me that one.

"sweet sweet SMELLS will fill the air"

As I understand it, this song was originally a reggae song written for a pot rally. Or maybe it was a reggae song re-written for a pot rally and then re-written again for the album. Whatever it was, I don't think they put as much thought into it as the people on this board.

We've discussed the end of this song before. To me it sounds like someone is saying "smoke dope" over and over again in the background. What do other people think?

Yes, it's a conspiracy. He's out to get us.. "Born For Adventure" told us all we need to know about Dennis DeYoung. Just read this: http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2010/02/22 ... 1423.shtml What they fail to mention is that all of these people have recently attended a DDY show!
