You'd think the latest round of posts came from 10 years ago. The same old arguments are tired on both sides who staunchly defend their side. Just fucking be happy you get to hear Styx music live still by a lineup (or both) you enjoy. After 1991 I thought that was it, and I've always said 1996 was a gift. Did anyone every think that the honeymoon would last? If you did, it's just another "grand illusion", except you're delusional.

"Dennis played NYE and had 30,000 people" "Styx had 78,000" - who gives a rats ass. Did people who were at the concerts enjoy? Awesome. Did both parties get paid for their services? You betcha. Next.

Things are WAY more similar than they are different. Dennis will go on with the business of Dennis, Styx will get on with theirs. I doubt either side gives a shit about a few vocal folks on a message board. Dennis all but says it in my interview.

This won't calm anyone down, but I just had to say something. It's shit like this which makes me scratch my head and go away from interacting with fellow Styx fans.

I agree Allan, we should be glad there is the current version of Styx still touring and Dennis doing what he loves and still (somewhat) touring. We got the best of both worlds and every side should be happy

Well i hope that i am not 1 you were talking about.I just out & out love Styx. And i will say that i really miss Jodes not being here any longer.

I think Sadie referred to all of this bickering as a circle jerk. Of course she has removed herself, wisely, from the fray here.

However many years ago, 4? 5? 6? these same arguments were perpetrated on both sides over and over and over on this particular board. I participated at one time, but, really, it all gets very old, especially when someone like me, who as a DDY fan, sees him doing very well on his own. It took me a little while to appreciate the fact, but getting booted out of Styx was probably, at this stage of his life, one of the best things to ever happen to Dennis. He doesn't need Styx and they don't need him, but they all need the music they created together at one time.

I do agree about 1996 being a gift. I was left hanging in the breeze in 83 when they canceled the Kilroy show in NYC. I think it was the day of the show that I found out.
Saw them on the Edge tour and as much as I like GB now, it wasn't the same. Then we got the 97 Grand Illusion tour and that was just icing on the cake. So for me, that kinda closed the book, especially after BNW.

I just accept the current situation as " it is what it is". Hey, I like that, maybe I'll use that as a song title.

The most ardent person in the Tommy/JY camp would not honestly admit Gowan sings Dennis's stuff better than Dennis. Gowan brings other things to the table Dennis does not. That's what makes the world go round. No one will doubt your loyalty to Dennis. It's OK to accept the things you cannot change.

It took $200 dollars on e-bay but I now have in my possession an over 2,700page document explaining the ins & outs of the DDY VS other the other Styx members. There is alot of legal terms and most people dont seem to understand whats in this document but I will do my best to comprehend and then explain it to all of you.

From what I have read so far in the 200 page summary it seems to me that Dennis tried to make all the decisions without the input of the other members. He tried to ram his ideas through no matter what the general public or the rest of the members in the band wanted.

On the other side Tommy tried to exhert his 'public concert option' even if that meant taking away the 'Voice of Styx' and having the band play at 200 seat venues. On their final album together Tommy took over total control of the band using a simple majority vote to push Dennis out while Dennis was fighting an illness.

It would be GREAT if both sides could just start over but now it appears too much time has been invested and too many feeling have been hurt.

I have to agree, it does kinda seem like things have gone backward, emotionally, around here recently. For me it's hard to fathom that, but I think I suffer from so much over-exposure to the subject of Styx that it's simply hard for me to summon up the will to care anymore, either way, LOL.

I will say this, though: this is supposed to be a fan forum where people can interact in a fun manner with other like-minded people. It's one thing for people to have differing views, that's fine; but to come here and have to wade through a lot of silliness, a lot of negativity that turns into junior high school name-calling and idiocy just makes it less appealing for everyone. This is a community, people; please behave the way you would behave toward the other people in any other community. Would you speak to your neighbor that way? Or the other parents at your kids' school? Or someone at work? Then don't do it here. That should be easy enough to understand. Treat your fellow human beings with respect, it's the right thing to do in EVERY setting.

I have to agree, it does kinda seem like things have gone backward, emotionally, around here recently. For me it's hard to fathom that, but I think I suffer from so much over-exposure to the subject of Styx that it's simply hard for me to summon up the will to care anymore, either way, LOL.

Well...ACTUALLY, just last week, MY next door neighbor came POUNDING on my front door screaming obscenities at 7:30 pm because my dogs were out back barking at a squirrel, and he couldn't hear his TV. Even though it was WELL before the noise ordinance time, I let the dogs in, to appease his delicate sensibilities. The next night at the same time, he came back, banging even harder and shouting even louder because the dogs were barking - either at the squirrel, or the other neighbor's dog, and this time, I pointed out that the dogs are cooped up all day, that there are squirrels and other dogs around, and above all, that is only 7:30 pm - they are dogs, and dogs sometimes bark. At that point, after screaming in front of my 11 year old, he grabbed my front door and slammed it so hard (with her standing 3 feet away) that it knocked pictures off the wall in my bedroom - 2 rooms away.

SO...to answer your question: YES. I would speak to "my neighbor" the same way, if provoked. NO, just because he's in "my community" doesn't mean he automatically deserves respect. Had this man shown me ONE ounce of politeness to begin with, I would have been much more receptive to his plight. I took it once, acquiesced his request. But I wasn't going to continue to take his psycho ranting again. Then to slam my door the way he did - in front of my kid? Well, then the rules change a little bit. Sure, there are other members here, and I think most of us are mindful of that. But as someone pointed out to me recently, there's only so much shit someone call throw over the fence into your yard before you start throwing it back.

In a perfect world., you would be right. But, it's not. Andrew wants us to police ourselves. That is how he runs his forum(s). So, like in any group of people, there are people who push the boundaries, have no scruples, and generally just don't give a damn. Eventually, people get tired of having to put up with that constant crap. So, eventually, some gets thrown back. The people who don't give a damn obviously don't care. In fact, they probably think it's 'fun' to set people off. That is the way people are...both the people who thrive on their deviant behavior, and those who don't.

So, deal with it. It's the way things are, and always will be on public forum that are 'anything goes', like this one.
