As predicted in my review from the night before yours, "Fooling Yourself" is in the mix. He does do the title track from his most recent album (did it the night before yours), but not all the time.

Between these changes to Dennis' set and Styx pulling out Damn Yankees tunes, things are getting interesting!

Is Dennis playing keys during all of Tommy's songs?

Styx should being in more Gowan solo material. A Styxified "All The Lovers In The World" be incredible. "Moonlight Desires" as well. Todd and Ricky could really shine in "Strange Animal"

There is no way this current lineup will do any more Gowan songs especially Moonlight Desires.

Solo or not, they would do better with Gowan being Gowan, not Gowan doing Dennis tunes. His songs on Cyclorama were some of the strongest.

Funny, not long ago you were saying how great of a track One With Everything is. Gowan's songs were fantastic additions to a very strong CD.

When you make comments like that, it truly shows how idiotic you are....People that support DeYoung can actually acknowledge that there is talent from Shaw and from some of Shaw's work - to say that 100 Years is terrible just means you have an agenda - because clearly if you are a fan of the classic Styx sound, its all over that album. Maybe you can be a little less transparent with future posts.

For the 1000th time, Dennis did the title track at the show I saw last week. He doesn't play it every night. Does Styx do all of their newer stuff all the time? No. I wouldn't consider Walrus new; it's a cover tune. Styx has largely abandoned most (but not all) of what they've done post-1999, especially on the multi-bill acts. How is that any different than what DDY is being accused of? It's not.

Just look at this Styx setlist from 2/26/2010:
http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/styx/2010 ... 74601.html

Walrus is the "newest" song on there. Out of 11 songs, 5 are Tommy's, one cover sung by Gowan (Walrus), one JY (Miss America), and four DDY songs sung by Gowan or JY (Lorelei ... I believe he still does it).

You're at pretty much 50/50 from DDY to TS tunes. In Dennis' new show, it's 3 - 4 TS tunes out of the rest. The balance isn't even close.

People need a firm grip on reality around here sometimes. Let's flip the coin: if Cyclorama and the new songs from OWE are so great, why isn't Styx doing the songs from them? It's the same reason Dennis limits what he does: people want to hear the old shit. Same reason they dropped songs like "Everything Is Cool" by the time they hit around 2002 or so. This ain't rocket science, folks.

And yes, I still hope to see Styx this year, especially if they continue to do "Coming of Age". I'm not beating up on either side, just presenting facts.

Gowan is a clown his music on Carrot is budget at Best OWE at least has a chance but Gowan shows how weak hi is in that
He should have ripped it up Instead he was a pussy . That's an old word.

Fooling Yourself sounded great. Nice to see Dennis back handling keyboards. He's sounding and doing more Styx than Styx it looks like. Tommy & JY seem to be in endless limbo now appearing on the oldies multi-bills, like those 50s & 60s acts I used to see on those packages where you were lucky to get 30-40 minutes playing time or LESS. Sad to see.

How is what they're doing any different than what DeYoung is doing? I seriously don't get the "logic" that permeates this group- nor the animosity. DeYoung has realized that people want to hear the Shaw stuff and Styx has always known that people want to hear the Dennis stuff. Big deal.

Either camp could've recorded the next "Sgt. Pepper" and because of the state of the music business, it would've gone absolutely NOWHERE (man). Cyclo was a great album, 100 Years had some great cuts on it- but neither of these bands are relevant to anybody but folks that were there during their heyday. It's like in the early 60s when The Beatles came along or the 50s when Elvis came along. All the sudden, jazz musicians or anyone not sounding British were going "How the hell do we sell any records now?". Doesn't mean the music is bad, means the audience and music has changed and moved on.

I have no animosity at all myself. I enjoy seeing the Tommy hits played in Dennis's band now and don't have a problem when Lawrence Gowan sings the Dennis stuff now that DeYoung is no longer with Styx.
I know what you mean by the Sgt. Pepper comment. Any classic rock act, no matter what they put out today, most likely will get practically ZERO airplay and will not sellhuge numbers...unless they're marketed through Walmart or something....

My only beef in my comments above was the fact that these multi-bills don't allow our favorite acts as much playing time.
