Dennis Hampton Beach

Dennis and the band was absolutely on their A game last night. The 1 hour 47 minute set just rocked. The band is getting it's mojo together with August and Jimmy melding nicely. The issues I had with Craig's vocals not blending well on the acoustic sets was gone.

The crowd was definitely into the show and the venue was pretty full. Especially seeing that the venue is basically a summer venue. With recent shows in Rhode Island, Eastern New York, New Hampshire and soon to be Connecticut, Dennis is entering a market that Styx only does once a year. New England is certainly becoming an area that Dennis is getting a stronghold.

It is clear the new members have energized Dennis in a very different way than he was in previous years. Much more interaction between the band members and just an overall better show. Clearly the personality of August and Craig have just changed the personality of the show.

The set list was his basic set list, with a couple of changes. Light Up was out and Show Me The Way was in. August is doing 4 of Tommy's songs. Craig is picking up some of the high notes that Dennis says he can't do anymore.

My hope is that in some way Dennis finds a way to record this group. They are clearly coming together as a band. The only thing that looks like it may hurt them is the spiradicness of the dates Dennis does. Dennis is clearly happy being a weekend warrior, but I wonder what they could do if they actually played for a one month tour where they were all together.

If this show comes to you, it is definitely something to see.

As Dennis says, It's all the hits...something Styx can't say

I was disappointed I couldn't go, but my schedule intervened. Maybe Torrington ...

Although I agree, the Northeast is becoming a nice niche for Dennis.

Full band is a great choice. Hope he keeps it in. How did it sound with the full band? How did the crowd respond?

Then you and nightbull/chickenbeef can go see the current touring version of Styx and be happy with Blue Collar Man.

Styx sans Dennis did play there in 2000 or 2001. That was a LONG time ago, and one of the two-set "Evening with ..." shows. I was there.
