Those are some of my very favorite Kansas songs. They stuffed in some good ones in the short time they get.

It looks like Travelin' Styx is trying to plug in a different song here and there along with the same ol', same ol', but none of these groups has much leeway in that regard. It is too bad Crystal Ball is gone, since that is one of Tommy's very best songs and is a nice concert song, and doesn't involve any lead "singing" by Gowan.

Foreigner is of no interest to me since Lou is not with them anymore, so all kinds of I-don't-care as to their set list.

I'm just surprised that the new single isn't being played. But it doesn't keep with the tempo of their set.

No Dennis, No Lou Gramm. Not wasting money on this one. I may go see the band currently calling themselves Styx when they come to the winery up near my house. Only because I want to see Tommy. I'll get in the wine/beer line when Gowan sings Dennis' songs! He's a talented guy, but Dennis is the reason why I was into Styx in the first place way back in 1974. It's just too hard for me to hear someone else sing his songs. I saw a Styx cover band in San Fran once and that made me cringe too. Just can't do it. My brother who has seen Styx with me many, many times over the years just saw them for the first time Without Dennis and he said it made him sick. His wife said the same thing. My best friend said the same thing when I took him in 2001. It seems the diehards that have been fans forever have a hard time and the casual fans could care less!
But at least Styx still has Tommy and JY to sing their own songs. Why would someone pay big bucks to go and see Foreigner without Lou Gramm?? I don't get that at all. Guess I just take it all too seriously!

I didn't know that. What happened to him? Last time I saw Foreigner was in the early 90's I beleive and Lou sounded fine to me.

The last time I saw him at a casino it was embarrassing he was so bad. I think his band is made up of his brothers or something.

Actually, Lou Gramm WAS a better singer, in his day, but certainly not now. Kelly does an amazing job with the set list, a very close ringer for Lou but still does his own thing to a degree. I agree, if Lou were well enough to the job I'd rather see that, but he's not and I don't think he's going to be at this point, sadly. It's not his fault, but he's simply lost too much and the songs are too challenging.

As far as Kansas goes, the band is better right now than it has been in a long time. Steve has regained a lot of his voice after years of being off drugs and re-learning, and he really sounds good. Way, way better than the 'Freaks of Nature' tour when they opened for Styx' RTP tour. He was struggling badly then. And the beauty of Kansas is, if you're into them, they always slip in some cool album stuff as well as hits. Some shows they'll just whip out a thing like "Belexes" and it kills. Most people have no idea what it is, LOL, but it kills anyway.

Did I see "Mr. Roboto" in that set list or was that a mis-print? I'm guessing that must be a small snippet? I haven't been keeping up with it but I hadn't heard about Styx doing "Roboto". I'd actually like to see them do that with Gowan singing it. Listen to a lot of his solo career, much of it is very much that 80s synth-pop stuff, not that far off fom what he does well, and that's one song I could see actually suit his voice well.


I don't think this tour is coming to my town, unfortunately . . .

For those who might not have known, Lou had a brain tumor years ago, had surgery, and has ea lot, but not enough to ever do justice to those kinds of songs again. I feel sorry for him really, because it's not his fault. He's in an unfortunate situation.

I'm not trying to be unkind, it's not the worst singing I've ever heard, but it sounds nothing like the legendary voice of Lou Gramm, either. Now here's Kelly singing the same song:

That is sad to see the contrast. Of course, YouTube stuff must be taking with a grain of salt, sound-wise, but I do see that Lou doesn't even approach his past self in both the singing and in how he looks. I had long since lost interest in Foreigner and none of this will change my feelings.

As for Foreigner, I saw them twice in the last year and really, really, really enjoyed their concert each time. I thought Kelly's voice was great and amazing, I agree with Sterling, close ringer but does he own thing. Each time they put on a total ROCKIN' concert, had the crowd ROCKIN' out!!

Last summer it was interesting to see Dokken without Jeff Pilson, then to see Jeff the next night with Foreigner, I was hoping he would've came to town a night early and go on stage with Dokken.

Now, as for Lou Gramm, I saw him a few years ago and thought he still sounded pretty good overall. I also remembered that he did have a brain tumor which did a number on his vocal cords, which again, were still good, not great, but good.
