Tommy Shaw - the singing still pristine

Is there anyone else from the "old guard" who still have so much of their "old" voice intact as Tommy does? Check out this clip from LA last month. Makes me wish I could see them on this tour. This is inspiring stuff. I can see why some people complain about the setlist, but they don't have much choice on a tour like this. In the end the choice of songs is less important than the fact that the boys still can deliver musically, which is very apparent they still do:

I like the way Lawrence steps in here and just does Tommy's 1990 studio harmony easily - cool!

You need to get your ears checked dude. That harmony with Lawrence is as pitchy as it comes.

It's as good or better than it has ever been. You're just biased and using that bias to make nonsensical statements.

This is ain't a great clip- I will say that Tommy DOES sing better than he ever has. His range has increased by leaps and bounds since the Ambition album and he's just gotten better with age. The stuff he did on the Shaw/Blades covers album was really great, especially the Yes tune. I prefer if over the original.
I remember when I first heard "Just Get Through This Night" that I couldn't believe how high he was singing. It didn't sound like him and that was when I first noticed him changing his approach.
Lawrence, while I like his voice well enough sometimes does seem to have a hard time with harmony or just blending. One thing about DeYoung was that his voice usually blended really well with the others.
Also, I'd have to agree with CB (oops!) that I prefer Dennis' voice when it had a bit more edge. During Kilroy, he seemed to really change his approach to a more operatic kind of thing. While it became a bit more round and deep (both good things), it did become more "Broadway" and I prefer the Dennis that's on Come Sail Away rather than to the Dennis that's on Desert Moon.
Listen to Return To Paradise and "Lady" and compare that with the original. The RTP has more bottom end and while that's a good thing, I think his younger voice fits the tune better.
Just my opinion

Ok live version number 3000 of Blue Collar Man is better than ever. Ok now what.
Did you see the PO8 tour when this song was played for the first time?
I did and that was the best ever. The song was new and the band was on fire.
In fact were you even born when PO8 was released?

I think Tommy sounding as good as he does in spite of his age can at least be partially be attributed to the better monitoring environments available to today's musicians. You can hear yourself much better with in-ear monitors when compared to the old school monitor wedges that it is much easier to stay in pitch. Also these devices, when used properly, can save your hearing which helps because you can't sing in pitch if you are too deaf to hear yourself.
Anyone who knows anything about singing and performing knows that Tommy's voice has aged remarkably well considering his range.
