Journey still acknowledges Steve though from time to time. DDY has been completely forgotten.

You're right ...Neal may throw a big F*ck him his way!!
I'd like to add that "A" band can try to erase all they want ...it ain't gonna happen, ever,
in the minds and hearts of the fans!!

Dennis hasn't been completely forgotten. If that was the case, they wouldn't still be playing his songs. They also seem to talk about him (and he them) in each and every interview.

The same could be said of Dennis. His site has nothing about his former colleagues even though he's now playing their songs too and has always played songs written by the 3 of them together.

Is there a chance there's some legal reason why they can't have anything about Dennis on their site?

If not, then I agree that it's pretty lame, especially in light of JC being mentioned in their bio on their site. It comes off as petty for sure. A simple "Lawrence Gowan replaced founding member and songwriter Dennis DeYoung in 1998" would suffice and make them not look so jerky.

all traces of dennis vanished from the website around the time of the lawsuit circa 2000. call me crazy, but perhaps somewhere it was decided that they (styx) couldn't use ddy's name or image with regards to promoting the band. but of course, froy is (as always) right on target with his conspiracy theories.

If it helps sell albums they will mention his name!

I wonder who's relationship is more destroyed?? Neil and Steve Perry's or JY and Dennis'????

I'd go with JY & Dennis. Lot's of water's passed under the bridge and Neal invited Steve to the Walk of Fame ceremony. Plus- If Perry wanted to be working with Journey, he would be. He obviously does not and is happy doing his own thing... nothing.

JY and Dennis on the other hand... yeah, there's gotta be some bad vibes there.

I think Tommy and Dennis will speak again some day. I really do.
JY and Dennis? Probably never going to happen.

Maybe Tommy will soften up.
But when I read Sterling's book there was one thing that stood out for me.
Dennis had cornered Tommy, and Dennis was pounding his ideas or whatever on Tommy.
As Dennis continued and continued, the look on Tommy's face told,
'He is never gonna do that to me again".

I might try and find the page in 'The Grand Delusion".

Good ole Dennis.

Actually, this gives me an idea for a topic.

The reason is simple. they are prooting the current line up.

That's not to say they don't hate each other, but most bands promote the current line up.

I doubt the lack of Dennis has anything to do with the 2000 lawsuit. In 2008 their site had the band bio and the "Brief Musical History" links which included references to Dennis.

A band's website is primarily for marketing and promotional purposes. Why would Styx's website (which is trying to promote current styx) refer to Dennis.

I think that it is somewhere along the lines of what Froy stated. From a band history standpoint they should include DDY. Based on the amount of contributions he made to the band. Not doing so is just silly.

I agree, I think the rift between TS & DDY his been given more of the spotlight when actually there is an even bigger rift between DDY & JY.

I would have to say that the "lawsuit" theory is just a political smokescreen for the simple reason of egos.

Current Styx members rarely mention DDY by name anymore. I have seen them use the "former member", "former keyboardist" then actually mentioning him by name.

brywool wrote:The same could be said of Dennis. His site has nothing about his former colleagues even though he's now playing their songs too and has always played songs written by the 3 of them together.

True, but his site is more of a site about DDY as a solo artist and not the band Styx.

I fully understand the band's website existing for the promotion of the band as it is configured now. The problem, of course, is if you have a link to information about the band, and it includes aspects of its (in the case of Styx) LONG history, it seems somewhat petty to mention, by name, former members, save for one. And that one a rather major player in the band's history.

But they are entitled to do whatever they wish. The line was drawn 10 years ago and Current Styx is moving on with its new history, so-to-speak, including re-recording the songs from their past and dropping any references to one of its founding members.

And why would Dennis need to have anything about any other member of Styx on his website? Last I looked, the website is called DennisDeYoung.com.

Bugs- only meant that he's doing Styx songs (Styx is now Tommy, Jy, etc.), yet doesn't mention them as writers or former bandmates. I'm not saying he SHOULD do this, just saying he doesn't. While he's promoting himself as a solo performer, he's also promoting himself as "The Music of Styx" so that's all I meant.

He REALLY needs a better site.... oy!

You ain't kiddin'! It has been awful for years, though, so why change now? :?

I did like it when, for awhile, he was writing update letters. Clever and smart and a very positive way to promote himself to visitors to the site. I just don't think his website is high on his priority to-do list.

On the current tour they show all the album covers on the giant video screen behind the band as they leave the stage. DDY’s photo is in several of those pictures at least 30 feet tall in full color!

That's true. It appears that DDY does not have that much interest in the internet altogether so that my be why his site seems to suffer.
