Sing For The Day

How do other fans feel about this minor hit?

It seems to be a song that Styx likes to revisit from time to time, and is being included on the "Regeneration" CD. To think that this was released from "Pieces Of Eight" before "Renegade". :o Not to say it's a bad song; on the contrary, but lyrically speaking, it sounds like something from an English Lit class. Pretty impressive from the one band member without a college education. Musically, the medieval feel is the perfect marriage to the lyrics, but it's hard to envision this ever being a big hit single. Maybe it sounds a little like "Fooling Yourself", but "Fooling Yourself" had a commercial vibe to it that's just not present on "Sing For The Day".

It's amazing when you think about how different Styx could sound from song to song. If I were a radio programmer back in '78, when someone handed me this promo, my jaw would have dropped after a rocker like "Blue Collar Man".

Was this Tommy's most profound? Think about how deep the particular metaphor of this song runs for the band, not to mention all musicians. Really, just human nature in general.

I think it's better live, too. I just wish Tommy wouldn't drop the last verse.

That was the beauty of Styx. You NEVER had a album full of songs that sounded the same.

Hannah don`t fail me I need you like never before
Father time`s at my back, on my heels
Behind every door (and he says)
Son when the youth has but gone from your face
Will she let you grow older with grace
Will she give you up for one younger than you
Oh Hannah please tell me the things that he says are untrue
Hannah I`m honestly hoping you`ll always be there

This is true, and I don't think they've ever been given proper credit for their variety of sounds. It's too bad, though, that they didn't experiment more with different styles of music.

i have always loved the song and back in the early part of the 80's ESPN used the musical section of that song all the time for commercials and various promostional things to promote their programming of the day.
