Kilroy 2013

Postby styxfanNH » Wed Jul 14, 2010 8:28 am

It will be 30 years into the future from when Kilroy Was Here was released. What are the chances that Dennis would bring Kilroy back to the stage.

We know Styx wouldn't touch it, but Dennis hmmmmm.

Wondering what the thoughts of the masses here have on this?

Doubt it. He didn't celebrate The Grand Illusion, Pieces Of Eight, or Cornerstone. Why would he celebrate Kilroy Was Here?

I know Dennis is proud that Mr. Roboto and Don't let it End were big hits, but I think he kind of regrets the Kilroy album.
Didn't it say in Sterling's book something like "I regret pushing the band into this"??? I thought I remember reading that.

I would not pay to see an new Kilroy show......................
but I would pay an updated story line, 30 years after the event in the story....
What as R.O.C.K. and rock and roll been doing in that time.
Is R-N-R still banded
Is R.O.C.K still an Outlaw
What became of J. Chance
Who runs with R.O.C.K. now
Has Dr. Righteous become Dr. Wrong?
What happened to the M.M.M and what does it stand for now...........

An update is the only way I would pay, not to revisitthe past.

OK, Abitaman, here goes...

R&R is not banned, but it did degenerate into sound-alike, generic music. Gaga-ed/Swift-ed/Bieber-ed to death.

Robert O. C. Kilroy became the Co-CEO (secretly, since he was still a fugitive from prison) of a large, multi-national corporation which makes and sells computers with little Apple logos on them. You can listen to his music on some of its portable music devices and phones.

A guy named Jobs, I believe, runs with Mr. Kilroy now. Both are quite wealthy. The reclusive Mr. Jobs keeps the hidden Mr. Kilroy's location and involvement in the company a deep secret. Not unlike how he handles phone development, unless a careless employee happens to leave one in a bar.

Dr. Righteous became the head of a large, fundamentalist church but was found to be spending too much of its money and, while preaching abstinence and self-discipline to his flock, was found to be hitting the red-light districts spending that church money freely. His TV show on the Pat Robertson network was canceled.

MMM = Tea Party Movement

You're welcome.

somebody already did. about 10 or 12 years ago, there was a fan-fiction story entitled "whispers in the dark" or Whispers in the night" written by "lt. vanish" that continued the story where the album left off. it was very well done, but it appears to have disappeared off the net. if anybody has a current link, feel free to post.

I remember that. It was good, I agree. Very entertaining.

The link I had to it disappeared 2 or 3 crashed hard drives ago.

I have often thought that if Dennis went back to his original story (before it was watered down and re-written to incorporate the other members of Styx and their songs and characters) and re-slanted it as a Broadway musical, it could be great. He could discard all of the songs except "Mr. Roboto" and "Don't Let It End", since those are the only two songs on there that most people are aware of. He could write new songs and re-slant the story, and simply title it "Roboto". And you know what? With Broadway having gone so pop in the last decade, it could be a hit.

What I really wish is that the band would re-master and re-release the catalogue properly, with studio outtakes and live bonus tracks and new liner notes. Hell, Gentle Giant did pretty well by doing that very thing recently, anf the demand for that music is comparatively very, very small. Why Styx does not work its catalogue more aggressively remains a mystery to me. Lord knows that stuff gets re-packaged all the time, why not do it right and give the fans real value?

Sorry, kinda got off on a tangent there!

I agree with you. Now that DDY is out of the band, I really doubt that the current Styx members would want a re-release of material with DDY on it. They are in the mode of shedding anything from the past that involved DDY except for what they can't for obvious reasons. If this is to happen I think that it would be Universal making the decision to do it.
