This article has some interesting info about what money goes where when an artist records and releases an album. Might have some bearing on what we have talked about here re new music and CD releases.

Sounds like the record company sets the bands up to fail.
If you never have a hit, you in debt for life!

No wonder they say all the money is in touring.

It's been like this FOREVER. This is not new news. In many cases, the label must get back every dime they've spent on promotion, production costs (including any videos), etc. before a member of the band truly sees any money. This is why, for example, when you watch the Rush documentary they were on a major label, a few tours in, and still not making anything.
This is also why publishing money is so important as well. There's a reason the guy that writes the hits makes more on those royalties. Album sales unless you sell a ton of copies really amounts to such a small piece of the pie.

True enough. I interviewed Randy Bachman recently, and I asked him how he feels about trying to put out the new Bachman and Turner record in this climate, when people can simply steal it. And he basically said that the record deal he signed with the Guess Who was so unfair that he only makes pennies on the dollar on that stuff, so even then the band earned most of its money touring. BTO made money because by then he had a track record and could force a better deal.
Deals are even worse now, though, with these so-called 360 deals, where the label takes a slice of not just albums, but t-shirts, touring, everything basically. Fuck that, I'd rather not have a record deal at all if those are the options. Bands are better off going it alone if they have any track record at all.
The flip side to all of this, of course, is that bands that sold a lot of records in that old model made a fortune if they signed a reasonable deal. Styx signed a good deal with A&M and everyone did very, very well.

Rumor has it that The Little River Band is after Tommy.
If he signs with them I bet Styx tries to resign Glen long term.
The Little River Band has that mega Australian money and the backing of The Outback Steak House. I know that Tommy is a vegitarian but if the LRB plus Outback throws all that cash at him non meat eater or not I dont know how he will refuse it.

Not true?
Many of the false rumors I start are heartbreaking for me to read.
It damn near killed me to read that Whitney Houston would soon be fronting Journey.

Now I'm hearing that BTO and The Sweet are going to go after Tommy BIG time.
The Little River Band is going to really have to pony up if they want Tommy Shaw fronting them in 2012.

You know,Tommy joining Sweet doesn't sound half bad.
His voice is more like Brian Connolly, than C.F Turner, but then again CF is already back so maybe he could fill in for Blair Thornton.
I can't wait.

I'd pay to see Tommy belt out some Little Willy, Fox On the Run and my favorite Love Is Like Oxygen.
I hope Tommy lands that gig.
Little River Band still looks like where he will end up. Those Outback pockets are too deep.

I just saw on A&E that Dee Snider( Twisted Sister) took the Little River Band job. Much of the 'Growing Up Twisted' show will be filmed on location with Dee fronting The Little River Band.
Anyhow, Tommy wont be getting this gig unless they( LRB) go for two lead singers. Which is a TOTAL possibility.
If you are TRULY a Styx fan and drink from the bathwater Tommy it may be a good idea to boycott Outback Steakhouse for a while. Their pockets are deep but, if ALL Styx fans stop eating there they may just settle for one lead singer and they wont go after Tommy Shaw.
P.S. I actually heard that about a month ago Tommy snuck off an auditioned for the job. When they asked him to sing Lady he sang the wrong one. It pissed some of the members of LRB off real bad.
P.S.S.- I still gotta believe that Tommy is their first choice over Dee. Ya they signed Dee, but I still bet there may be room for Shaw. As a Styx fan I hope not. No Outback for me until this all blows over.

Now I like this one. I'm not sure if I'm up for the Twisted River Band though. I heard Tommy was auditioning for The Orchestra's lead singing part, but he got into a fight with Glen and Tommy needs knee replacement surgery now.

This just in..........Brian Cashman swooped in at the last minute and signed Tommy to pitch for the Yankees.
Sorry Yogi, but the Yankees have more money than Outback!

I now know from a VERY VERY reliable source that Tommy will indeed walk when his Styx contract is up. Since Dee Snider signed on to front The Little River Band and Salt Grass plus the Styx fans boycott has taken away much of Outbacks early bird special business, look for Tommy to ink his next contract as the new lead singer for Pablo Cruise.
Pablo Cruise will start their 2011 World Tour in Juarez, Mexico in February. They will be playing the entire album 'Worlds Away' along with many of their other HUGE hits. Back in May when Tommy auditioned for this gig everyone said he ABSOLUTELY nailed the songs Love Will Find Away, and A Place In The Sun.
I really like Pablo Cruise. I'm not a huge fan, but I like them none the less. Tommy's a good fit for this band. He has had a good run with Styx, and this does seem like a logical move.
Look for this announcement to be made in late August/early Sept. The Sweet & BTO may still come calling but my money now is on Tommy signing with Pablo Cruise.
P.S. Tommy was spotted a couple of times talking to Kip Winger and his team. This is only a far fetched rumor which I would never have a part in as of now.
P.S.S. I am now a stereo LP. COOL. I hope I have dolby!

Now I'm hearing that Bowling For Soup is going to be the band that hires Tommy.
In his audition he nailed '1985'. He even added some references to Styx and Roboto into that classic.
'Springsteen, Madonna, way before Nirvana, There was Roboto's and Blondie and music still on MTV.....
and Froy's preooccupied with 1985'

I just heard on Shreveport's 98.9 ( Classic & Modern Rock) that 'Tommy Shaw of Styx fame will indeed sign with Bowling For Soup. Tommy nailed the song 1985 in a rehearsal and gives the modern rockers a more commercial sound'.' For Shaw his career has now come full circle. He was discovered by a member of the Styx management team playin in a Bowling Alley in Alabama back in 1975'.' Now he will lend his smooth vocals for Bowling For Soup'. 'Look for Shaw to ink his new contract by the end of August'. You can link this article by logging on to:www.98.9rocks.com.
