What's the better known Styx song, Don't Let it End or Snowblind?

Doing some research here...

since dont let it end was a top 10 hit and snowblind never released as a single this is hand's down dont let it end........the average person that was 12 years old or older in 1983 will remember this song and nobody other than styx fans will know snowblind.

now if the question was which is the better song then the answer would be snowblind in a freaking landslide.

You're right on the single thing... however, if Paradise Theatre was a number one album, I'd think more people know Snowblind. I know that I still hear SB on classic rock stations, but I haven't heard DLIT since about 1984.

I guess I'm looking for a 'general public' opinion.

snowblind has prevailed, it's a timeless song whereas dlie is very dated sounding (and a weak song to start with)

I heard DLIE two hours ago on XM 80s station.

I have never heard Snowblind on any radio station, classic rock or otherwise. I was surprised to hear that it even got airplay on a rock stations in the day - but then again it only made it up to 22 on the ROCK chart and charted for 13 weeks - hardly a big hit (for comparison Love Is The Ritual went to #9 on the Rock Chart, but only charted for 8 weeks).

Kilroy was a number two album and DLIE was the second single off it. DLIE charted on two charts #6 on Pop (16 weeks) and #13 on Adult Contemporary (15 weeks).

Just because a song wasn't a single doesn't mean anything. There are a lot of songs that weren't singles that got played heavily on AOR stations.

It looks like DLIE is the one.

Snowblind is one of my all time favorite Styx Songs. All three guys had a hand in writing it. (yes, even Tommy, even though the album only credits Dennis and JY). And the vocals are amazing and it ROCKS! It still gets played on the classic rock stations in my area. I just heard it last week when they were doing "two for Tuesday".

You can't compare the two songs. Snowblind is WAY better. But as far as ballads go, DLIE was pretty good. Not as good as the Best of Times.

but as far as which one's more known to the general public, I guess you'd have to go with DLIE...

Didn't any of the controversy surrounding the supposed backward messages of "Snowblind" put it more in the public eye? Not being a smart ass here, either. I've heard even Adult Contemporary D.J.s make reference to it.

I've never heard either on the radio, but I don't exactly sit around and wait to hear a Styx song; so, it's possible I might have missed it. I'm sure XM plays a lot of stuff that regular radio forgot about years ago; that's why I don't really even bother with the radio anymore- except for when my wife won't put up with my CDs in the car..

I'm sure "Don't Let It End" is probably the winner in this particular case, but it is possible for a song that isn't a single to get a ton of mainstream attention: "Desperado" by the Eagles was never released to radio, but it's probably up there with "Hotel California" in airplay.

I am making assumptions here, but I think "Don't Let It End" was kind of a big hit that fizzled out rather quick, but "Snowblind" was never a commercial single, and was always more popular as a concert staple, rather than a radio hit.

dlite may have gotten more airplay with it being a single and all but snow blind is the more well known song do in part to the tipper gore bullshit.

yeah, my opinion is that Snowblind would be known to more people and that's kind of the info I'm wanting to know, or get opinions on. I'm basically trying to build a list of Styx most well known stuff. Most of it is a no-brainer, but on this one, maybe both tunes are the way to go.

Don't Let It End was the song that was on the radio more, in the Juke boxes and still gets played in the local grocers sometimes on the muzak systems. I, like everyone else here liked SnowBlind more but you asked what the general public was more likely to be familar with. Many people heard about the supposed Satanic thing with SB but hearing about it on the news isn't the same thing as actually hearing the song itself, so I'm going to go with the song that made the charts and still gets airplay every now and then on the A/C stations.

In hindsight, to gage the pulse of the general public (or causal fan) wouldn't it have been better to ask this question in any forum excluding this one?

I guess it depends on who you ask, and whether you are listening to adult contemporary or classic rock stations. I've never heard DLIE on classic rock stations, and I've never heard Snowblind on AC.

It's funny, I never heard about the back masking thing with Styx until JY started mentioning it at the Styx shows. I know a lot of other bands were lumped into that, but didn't hear the Styx one until they started mentioning it.

A consistent problem with many bands, including practically every one I ever liked (or so it seems).

I hear both tunes on our Clear Channel classic rock station from time to time.

The wasted time is the saddest part.. Bread is an interesting comparison to Styx. You have David Gates(Dennis), James Griffin(J.Y.). They scored their first big hit with a soft song called "Make It With You"- penned by Gates, and from that point on, Gates contributed all the singles. I think Griffin was allowed one single the whole time he was in the band. They found a formula that worked, and Gates had no problem running with it. Griffin, on the other hand, would have liked to have shaken things up, and rocked out a little more.. sound familiar? They split ways in the late '70s; did a brief reunion tour in '97, and since, they have all passed, but David Gates.

Not sure about Styx but in Bread's case, it was Electra Records calling the shots as far A-Side releases were concerned. What did Griffin want Gates to do, stop trying to write hits? Just a sad story all the way around.

Never heard it before it came up here, did youtube and couldn't get through the first minute. Yes, Ive heard opera and maybe I would change that to something from a musical, like Cats. Now Open Arms, that's a ballad.
