Seriously sounds like they are still uneasy about this idea, I guess that will happen when you play the same basic set list for so many years. I can't believe they needed this much convincing.

2 dollars to produce a cd that's 28 dollars each profit, That's what you get when your a STYX fan ripped off.
Sad situation but there are always chumps out there with blood money

I only bought the song "Can't Stop Rocking" for what, .99 from Itunes. That was fair. But 30.00 for an EP, that's like 4 or 5 songs? That's gotta be a mistake. If it's not a mistake, well, then it won't sell and the band really can't blame anyone else for that.

To stray off topic for a sec...

I just don't want this to get lumped into the argument that Styx makes about "Well, we put stuff out and people don't buy it, so therefore, we're just not going to do anything new ever again. What's the point?"- I do and I don't get that argument, especially when it's so inexpensive to record these days.
If a CD is bloatingly over-priced, it ain't going to sell and that's the beef that so many consumers, and artists like Tom Petty, have with the record industry.

Granted, file sharing has really screwed up the music business, but you know, people (and I'm sure Styx Members included) used to have cassettes and record albums that way as did everybody. Everybody taped albums back then and traded them, etc. The first recording of Equinox I had was a cassette tape that someone recorded for me. The only difference would be, if these digital copies were burned and packaged to look like the real thing and sold en masse as legit releases. The other difference is that RIGHT AFTER the album gets put out, people start downloading it and copying. So those initial sales don't happen as they did with albums. That's the problem.

I know with Cheap Trick's Rockford album that when I tried to create MP3s of it for my iPod (I bought it, by the way!) that it didn't work properly and it was pretty chopped up. Maybe Styx (and other bands) need to look into ways of making it more difficult for people to copy the tunes. It's not going to be impossible, but make it more difficult. Even having the format of iTunes only makes it more difficult for people.

There are plenty of artists that still put out new product that aren't MAJOR sellers. Ringo Starr, for example, while once a Beatle, hasn't sold a billion CDs for years, yet he continues to release new music for the love of doing it- and to help support his tours. Cheap Trick (cited above) also is still releasing new music. I don't get the argument that Styx can't.

Okay, what were we talking about?

(sorry!)

That's for the autographed album. I'm pretty sure the cd is only $15 bucks or so.

If you look at other albums on the styxworld store that aren't autographed, they are also priced anywhere from $18 and up.

To name a few:

Brave New World : $26
Caught in the Act: $30
Return to Paradise $40
Cyclocarrot :) : $26
Tommy Shaw - 7 Deadly Zens : $27

That's what ebay is for. $26 for brave new crap? no thank you. I like the album but not enough for that price.

Wow. Sorry Styx, but that's ridiculous. I heard the frustration from Todd in Sterling's interview the other day and it's obvious that he reads here and it may be obvious that he's read some of my posts griping about wanting new music from the band- but wow, I can't get behind those prices at all. It's no wonder the band is having trouble selling albums. They shouldn't GIVE this stuff away, but they also shouldn't overcharge for them either.

Note to Styx fans- Brave New World is $14.00 at Amazon. The other albums are also cheaper there (and pretty much anywhere else).

wow. :(

ANY single album. If it's out of print and unavailable, I guess that's one thing, but as a rule? Forget it.

Styx can't and won't because there are no writers left in the band,Gowan is useless so is Todd and Ricky.
You thing JY and Shaw are going to produce anything good? Have they ever before without Dennis?

$30 for remakes? Wow... That is amazingly high. Hell Journey's album of remakes AND a CD of new material was $5 less than that - and you could get it at Walmart for even less.

This is a really poor decision. I've actually been tempted to catch the show here at the Ryman in Nashville but I'll wait to see what tickets run. $30... cripes.

Well. Froy. To be fair. 7 Deadly Zens was a fantastic album. Maybe Tommy's best song-writing in my opinion. Hits? Maybe not, but it was a real quality record.

It's more accurate to say remakes then new in regards to this release. One new song just doesn't cut it in my book as "new material". After all, it could be said that the majority of people looking to buy this lame project are mostly going to be die hard fans. So, maybe that is the reason for the price gouging. It could be they don't expect to sell more then a couple hundred or so. Who knows. Personally, I would only pay that kind of price for something that was rare or out of print that I just had to have. Not for rehash.
