I have not posted in quite some time as I have been busy trying to keep my business afloat in this economy. I also have two two daughters, one is 13 and just beggining to go insane and the other is 18 and just showing signs of recovering from her 5 plus years of insanity.

I was surprised not to see more excitment over this new tour. After attending about 10 of there shows (one in 1978)
the rest from 2001 on I had my fill of the same set list. I will be seeing them in November in Lowell , ma.

What's the surprise ? It's Gowan ruining everything he sings, Why get excited over that?

I feel your pain ... I'll be feeling it even more if our idiot president allows the tax cuts to expire at the end of the year. With everything he's done to our economy, ie the bailout costing more than the Iraq war, etc... we'll all be lucky to have jobs or businesses through 2012.

I think there has been some excitement over the shows... as much as there can be really. With as "forward looking" as the band is (in name only), it is surprising to see them looking backward.

Even with doing the two albums in toto, these songs were already staples live:
Grand Illusion
Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man)
Come Sail Away
Miss America
Grand Finale (taped, played at the end for years)
Renegade
Blue Collar Man

Dennis has done Castle Walls
Dennis and Styx have done Queen of Spades at various times
Styx has done Sing for the Day (early on - maybe 2003ish?)
Dennis has done Pieces of Eight

I think Aku Aku will be played. I seem to remember someone talking about learning the part. Might've been Todd, might've been Gowan.
Not really a song though, kind of a non-event.
They should do Aku Aku as a prelim to "Just Be". It would work well for that.

He may have ... I have the set written down somewhere (if I even have that paper around still). That's why I asked. I'm pretty sure he did it at least once in the past 10 years, but only so much I can keep in my noggin'

He sure did and it was freakin great
That was the best concert I ever saw from Dennis .

That was the best concert that I've been to, nothing will top that one. That's the only time he will ever sing "Unfinished Song".

While a good show, IMO not his best. I would still rank that first show at the Rosemont with the orchestra above that, and in some ways, while not as polished, the Rye Playland show may have been better. The HOB show was definitely top 5, along with the acoustic show in NYC (with Glen) and the first show with Glen in NJ where they did the one Son of Edge song and "We Can Work It Out".

The first one with Glen was one of the best too!!!

It would be 2 or 3 for me (depending on the day and how I feel about Rye Playland). I think part of the Rye Playland show was that it was really his first rock show solo (post-Styx) and it was still new and fresh, plus I loved the keyboard player he had back then. Still to this day I found him to be the best Dennis has employed (no offense to John). Only one who got Roboto right

Song selection wise, yeah, the HOB show was great. The standout for that show for me was the reworking of "Borrowed Time" moreso than "Unfinished Song".

Found the post with the set from the HOB Lost Treasures in Chicago. I'm OK wasn't there (thought so). Here's the link:

The writer of the song, Chuck Lofrano wasn't in good health during that time and Dennis performed this for him, if I'm not mistaken, that's one reason. In a recent thread, Chuck passed away a few weeks ago.

I thought he played I'm Ok somewhere live.

Two or three times at most. Standout number two of that night for me.

It's a shame because I really think that song would liven up any Dennis set ...

Might help if I read the entire list! Sorry, that one just jumped out at me.

I still think Dennis ought to counter with a three album tour featuring: Cornerstone, Paradise Theatre & Kilroy Was Here.

He could encore with Lady, Come Sail Away & alternate between Show Me The Way & Suite Madame Blue. If his new band is as great as everyone says he could easily pull it off.

Not a bad idea as that seems to be where he came into "Dennis DeYoung" more than Styx as a writer.
He should do the whole Kilroy/theatre thing too. They've staged Paradise Theatre, might as well redo that as well. Fans would like it.

I could see Dennis considering doing PT. The problem would be the JY tracks. I wonder who would sing them.

Ok, you guys made me dig out my HOB setlist. The one where Dennis made notes all over it and then stepped on it during the performance, so I have his notes AND his footprints on it.

No "I'm Ok" listed or written in. (The only written in song was Castle Walls.) I don't remember it at all at the show, Froy. I DO remember how kick-ass Best Thing was and the "Borrowed Time Shuffle" which was such an unusual take on that song.

That remains my favorite concert ever. Even with Mr. Roboto in the set.

One of a kind, no question.
