With a song such as Come Sail Away, where it starts with mainly piano and vocals, this is definately not a good fit for Gowan doing De Young. Musically, I find nothing wrong with it, although I will wait to hear the cd version rather than some compressed crap. Closer to their live interpretation of this song without the big ending. Gowan's vocals really bug me on this song and Lady but moreso here than live.

Beyond everett and born4 (same person btw) and babyblue (maybe also same person) opinions, this really is awful...it truly is very sad. The first half of the song, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. I wonder went on in the studio during this. After they recorded it, played it back, did they really think to themselves "This is great. Let's include it on the album" ? Clearly, Tommy and JY are back on drugs, because that could be the only reason that explains why they would want to put this out on a record of any sort. I agree the musicianship is fine and the harmonies are better than the grand Illusion's, but the first 3 minutes of the song are just pathetically excruciating. Guys, here is a suggestion for you...maybe next time don't recreate your signature song without your signature vocalist. I don't care what dollars you see in your eyes. Because this makes a mockery of the entire concept.

As froy said, how sad. It really is. If I didn't know how they got themselves into this position, I would kind of feel sorry for these guys.

I don't find the beginning of this one nearly as annoying as Grand Illusion. Gowan uses different phrasing vocally and different pronunciation, but it's okay and it really shouldn't be the same as the original. He does stick pretty much to Dennis' piano parts, which is cool. I have to say that I certainly prefer this section over ANY of Dennis's live versions "WE HAD DREAMS!" which is saying a lot. If Dennis would go back to just singing the song, that'd be my preference for sure. Those who whine about pronunciation, go back to the original recording. While still the definitive version of CSA, Dennis was extremely tight on his pronunciation and I can remember people reaming him for it way back in 77. I actually prefer that style to how his voice has evolved.

However- again, the band has chosen to use that extremely cheezy double tracked vocal sound during the fast part. If they used it on the chorus, that'd work as it's supposed to be more than one voice, but to use it on "A gathering of angels appeared above my head...., etc. " just screams "laptop". Lawrence sings this part great and I'm not sure why they felt the need to augment it in such a strange fashion. Add a touch of reverb or delay and go. Doubling? eh... funky.

I will say after a few listens, the glaringness of this effect goes away, so that's good.

Seems weird that they're using the live versions too because if you want to hear THIS BAND doing THESE SONGS, then THESE VERSIONS are already available as live tracks.

I do like that Ricky slips that low bass note in near the end of the tune. 5 string bass is cool.

It's fine for what it is - a remake.

One more thing...

The drums on the track are pretty freakin' brilliant.

I can think of quite a few things to be said.....but I'll shut-up and be nice!

On 2nd thought, I'll say what's on my mind. Re-recording Dennis' songs with someone else singing them is an insult to the history of this once great band. Period. And I would say the exact same thing if Dennis' new band re-recorded some of Tommy's songs. Neither band should go there. Tommy and JY need to make an album of all new material. And if they insist on re-recording old songs they need to leave Dennis material out of it.

Then given that he sings 60% of their songs, you really can't consider yourself a Styxfan, so why don't you go the fuck away?

Of course but when you are dealing with children filled with revenge all bets are off.
The Legacy of STYX has been destroyed by Gowan Shaw Young Pannazzo and Brusco.
All for the love of money.

Straight on.
To re-record Dennis' material just invites band slammage. Why put themselves through that?
