New "Best Of" disc

Postby FormerDJMike » Sun Sep 05, 2010 10:26 pm

I saw a new Best Of double disc set at WalMart. At first I thought it was the "Gold/Come Sail Away" disc but the track listing is different. It is more in line with GH 1 & 2 but even then it has different songs. New artwork with the logo on the front and the GI Band Photo on the back. UMe records.

"Universal's 2010 collection Icon 2 doubles its companion Icon, adding another disc and another 12 songs. This is enough space to feature such hits as ""The Best of Times"" -- although, sadly, ""Don't Let It End"" is still MIA -- and makes this worthwhile for the Styx fan who wants to dig deeper than the basics offered on Icon. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide"

It was $11.99 at Newbury for the double disc and the $6.99 for the single disc.

Why are there only 12 songs per disc?? This seems like it's just a budget version of "Styx Gold". There's nothing on here that's not on that collection; correct?

The order of the songs make no sense at all to me. I always wondered who the song order selector guru is for these discs, he or she should be shot.

I think its ridiculous that you have so many non hits on there like Shooz and Love Is The Ritual and you leave DLIE off?

I like the song, but do not think it belongs on a Best of disc. Man in the Wilderness doesn't either. BTW what is your beef about Don't Let It End? It is a good song and a hit.

terrible song. annoying as hell and corny too. what does it matter if something was a hit or not. tik tok was a hit does that make it a master piece???????? man in the wilderness is in the top 10 styx songs, but maybe people shouldn't judge the real songs styx did because they are art and art should not be judged. DLIE is not art it was made just to get radio play

Corny? And Shooz isn't? I mean for crying out loud Styx can't even spell shoes correctly! Rock N Roll shoes? come on. Doesnt mean I hate the song. I love corny songs in general, main reason I am a styx fan to begin with.

I like the song but it's not something I think you could say represents the better of Styx' catalog. There are certainly better ones to choose from that haven't been on these compilation releases.

Shooz.... one of the worst Styx songs ever.

Only included to give Tommy Shaw more royalties from the sales of a Greatest Hits package. Saves them from having to pay Dennis for yet another one of his hit songs.

If Shooz were truly a "best of" song, none of us would like the band.

Just because he doesn't like the song doesn't mean that you have to cut down a song the he and others like, we all have opinions on what songs we like.

Are you speaking from experience there? That sounds pretty specific, try to look back and find the positive aspect of that encounter, you'll feel better.

Speaking of Kenny Rodgers... I was just listening to "Just Dropped In". I know he didn't write it - but it's still a great song and nothing like what you'd expect to hear come from him.
