We had the Rockers collection done by JY/Tommy with no DDY songs or input, so how about the ballads collection (except that DDY would be more gracious and actually include Tommy songs)....REO did it....
STYX - THE BALLADS
Best Of Times
This Old Man
Show Me The Way
Come Sail Away
Boat On The River
Paradise
All In A Day's Work
Pieces of Eight
Haven't We Been Here Before
Lady
Sing For The Day
Babe
Just Get Through This Night
Love At First Sight
Unfinished Song
Don't Let It End
Dear John
Goodbye Roseland

I will say this. It probably would not sell many copies, but it would definitely sell more than "Rockers" ever did.

Yeah and it sucked. Luckily they came out with the double disc complimation a few years later. It was good but it could've been better. Anyway if this cd ever were to happen it would be from the dennis camp.

Totally forgot that one! See edited list (also would put in Unfinished song....). Call me a schmuck but I personally would enjoy this compilation far more than Rockers.

I would enjoy The Lawrence Welk tribute orchestra's performance of "Lady Gaga: The Meat Years," better than "Rockers."

Yes, they both are. Ballad beginning and most of the song is ballad. Crystal Ball is hardly a rocker either (on Rockers) if you are using that thinking.....

Agreed, but I would be much more likely to purchase this set thatn the Rockers set. In other words, put it on when you want to mellow out.

I don't think a song is a ballad just because it starts out slowly. I think a ballad needs to be slow paced all the way through.
I don't consider Stairway to Heaven a Ballad and that song REALLY starts out slowly! But then it rocks.

I just don't feel like Lady and Come Sail away are ballads. Both of those songs rock once they get going.
Now Babe is a ballad! First Time is a ballad! (and probably the only Styx song I do not listen to. Although Dennis' voice is amazing in it).
But I suppose we all have different opinions. I guess Lady could be considered a Power Ballad. Possibly the first one ever as Yogi Suggests! But it really rocks after the opening lines. Come sail away to me is kind of a progressive rock type of song that happened to become a hit. And it does have the slow start. But that is kind of a Styx Trademark.

I actually prefer the Styx rockers over the ballads, but If I put together a Styx rockers collection I would include all of Dennis' rockers also.

How about something like this (in no particular order):

Everything is cool, Love is the ritual, Heavy metal poisoning, Half Penny two penny, Snowblind, Love in the Midnight, Borrowed time,
Queen of Spades, Renegade, Miss america, Castle Walls, Man in the wilderness, Midnight ride, Put Me On and Born for Adventure.

This would be a high tempo CD I could listen to in the gym! Or crank in the car! LOL! Of course nobody would buy it because I put so many obscure songs on it, but it would be a great CD to rock out to for Styx diehards who like the harder edged songs.

It's funny. I'm 46 now and as time goes on I keep gravitating more towards heavy metal type of music. Aren't we supposed to mellow as we get older??? When I was in my 20's I listened to bands like Styx, Genesis, Foreigner, Van Hagar and Asia, and now that I'm an old guy I am listening to Queensryche, Metallica and Dream Theater!

I totally agree!!! I just ordered tickets to their Milwaukee show, I can't wait to go. Shinedown is one of my favorite bands, finally good music from "today".

I hear that much of the show is acoustic.

Is that true?

I like your selections. Frankly, I think the "obscure" songs are some of their best (whether rockers or not). That's what I love about this band. I find a majority of their solo work quite listenable as well (OK, maybe not as much of JY's, but you get the point).

No offense intended, but both of these are NOT rockers ... and not even a rocker before "Rockin' the Paradise" which rocks harder than either of those. BT is a higher energy song, but a rocker, no. The intro gives you hope it is ...

LitM is more moody and prog-y in the middle, not a straightforward song at all. It's also midtempo.

I agree on "LITM", but "Borrowed Time"? That's a rocker.. It's more of a Billy Joel, "Glass Houses" era kinda rocker, :P but I would consider it a rocker.

A lot of Styx songs are hard to place in a certain category. They have tons of songs that start slow and build up, but does that make something a power ballad? Is "Crystal Ball" a power ballad? It seems like often times people always think a power ballad or ballad has to be a love song. People say "Lady" is a power ballad, but it rocks harder than "Crystal Ball", lol.
