First thing it was great to hear the songs in the way I usually listen to them via the album. Superstars needs to stay in the set permantly, they really nailed it. Man in the Wilderness it was nice to hear the entire song live, Tommy really delivered vocally on this too, hitting all the high notes. I was a little dissapointed in Castle Walls, it sounded a little empty, not enough ummph, although Tommy and JY's guitar work was pretty good, Gowan sang on key, but you could really tell this song was not for him. Great White Hope was excellent to see the entire song live, it is a kick ass tune, they should replace Miss America with this track in future shows. The shocker of the night was I'm Ok, Larry actually delivered the goods, he sang on key and actually had the crowd singing along to a rare album track. He also nailed the organ solo at the end, of course I knew he would shine on that. Why Styx past and present has ignored I'm Ok for so long is a mystery, this is a really good live song. Lords of the Ring was interesting, I have to say that the graphics were very strange, if you are afraid of clowns you might want to take a bathroom break during LOTR. Queen of Spades was pretty good, the sound was good and in your face. Larry did a good job on the song I thought. Pieces of Eight, I was suprised that Gowan did a good job as well, he sang on key and tried not to overdue it either. Aku Aku should forever be the new closing song I thought it was a neat way to end a show, the graphics at the end were very cool as it swept you through Easter Island and into outerspace. I hope the band will continue to do things like this very cool the crowd was very much into the show. I hope to see some of these songs in the set list more often. I hope Dennis does something like this as well.

The band is also doing the live versions of the "played" songs, meaning the live version of Come Sail Away. I kinda of thought going in that they would stick closer to the album version. I'm not really complaining about this, just an observation.

I have to admit, reading your review almost makes me want to see this show. Currently not planned anywhere around me. If Gowan can at least keep himself on key, that's helpful. I just can't imagine listening to his prominence on some of those song (such as I'm OK, or Queen of Spades for instance). However, I just love both of those albums, beginning to end.

It's shocking to me that Walrus is part of the 2-song encore. THAT's a crappy selection, given the catalogue this band has. How about this - the new Shaw song from Regurgitation (good tune, and something current). Then, Too Much Time...(not a huge fan of this either....it's ok), then Half Penny Two Penny and transition into AD 1958 to close it out. Or, how about weaving These Are the Times in somewhere....a great song, and it's moderately "current" (see, I do appreciate JY, even though I think he's an ass).

It was thinking about it numerous times last night that this would be a dream come true concert if it was the classic line-up, that even includes John on the drums. Styx should of tried something like this years ago, as watching this songs being played in this order just made a lot of sense to me, it felt correct.

Chuck was at the show last night as well, he only played on his normal 3 songs. It was kinda weird they had him come out after the encore that he didnt play on to take a bow.

Thanks for the review. How many were in attendance? Was the crowd receptive to this kind of show?

The Star Plaza Theatre holds 3500 people I believe, I would say it was 80% full. The crowd was pretty into the show I thought, there was more cheer though to the usual songs.

Another note, Froy's favorite album Regeneration is now marked up to $20. It is literally marked up too, the $15 dollar sign was scribbled out and $20 marked next to it!

JY's 92 year old mother was in attendance to the show as well.

See, that I'd have a huge problem with. Make new signs. Although $20 makes sense from a purchasing standpoint - just hand 'em a $20 bill.

Let's say they got a theatre that holds 500 people and then the Star Plaza that holds 3500,and no other theatres,there isn't really that much choice
of where to play.If there is 30000 people living there,then 2500 turnout is pretty descent I would say.
Doubt that would make sense to you.
Maybe Lt.Vanish can help us out with the demographics please.

Agreed, but it's not even an hour from the southern parts of Chicago and that's where the band originated! It is truly sad that they couldn't sell out a tiny venue in their own backyard.
