Looking at the front page of this wbsite did I see that Styx's name was on the billboard for a UK tour with JOURNEY and FOREIGNER.

Unless you have 20/20 vison or better you may not even see that they are playing on this triple bill.

actually the font is the same size as foreigner's font....just less letters in the name and the blue doesnt pop out like the red.....as usual Journey is the clear headliner.

regardless....it's a triple bill I would love to see in the states.

Bottom of the barrel?Maybe ,but like cream floats to the top,Styx will be on top when it comes to the reviews of the 3.
Early to bed,early to rise.
A little known fact is,that Styx only do the British tours ,so they can take their wives shopping at Selfridges,Tesco and Harrods.
Larry will probably go to bonnie Scotland for a few days for some haggis.

You're not grounded in reality. Draw and "reviews" are what set this bill up the way it is. Styx can't even draw in the U.S. anymore, so what makes you think they're going to draw abroad? And I understand that reviews are based on performance, but if that performance hasn't afforded them to play to bigger audiences here, that means that people have most likely been underwhelmed with what they've seen.

I'm telling you right now ... the reviews and the fans will all favor Journey and Foreigner. They're simply better. Styx is merely a tag-along on this trip.

As I said earlier.Styx are going to Europe to go shopping.
The other guys are trying to pull in a crowd.

I'm not trying to downgrade the guys and I don't know as much about them as most of you, but how many times have they been to Europe in the past? I'm guessing that this might be a chance for fans that have yet to see them to get that chance. And that alone is pretty cool. Overall, I think merely the name recognition of this lineup will make it a huge success, and there are a lot of great songs fans are going to get the chance to hear.

Gotcha.
Good luck to 3 fine bands ganging up and hopefully make a fine night for US pomp prog pop bands taking the time giving part of Europe a chance, for fans.

Styx draws enough to make a profit and will continue to do so. They love to play music and they are making a very good living at it so why the hell not. We've been down this road so many times here...fans are not there to see Styx..blah blah blah. Who cares. I love to see them.

I agree with everything you said, man. My only point was that I think he's setting himself up for disappointment with his predictions. All 3 bands are great and the fans will be floored, but I still think Journey and Foreigner are going to garner the lion's share of the press and adulation.

I thought the exact same thing. Unfortunately, not an accident. Which means, you know exactly the chumming order of this little endeavor. Another sign of their ever evaporating relevance. Too bad, really. How do you play second fiddle to Foreigner, with their one original member remaining.

And I love JY's quote.... a "can’t-miss ‘guitars a-blazin’, vocals amazin’ kind of a classic rock evening". What a tool.

From Foreigner Online

Foreigner will be joining Journey along with special guest Styx in a UK tour in June 2011! Three of the biggest names in Classic Rock will be playing at 5 cities across the country.

Even Mick and Company are letting it be known that Styx is the low man on the totem pole for this tour.

Mick and Neal were interviewed together on UK radio this morning and Jones had to mention the fact that there would be a band named Styx touring with them as that tidbit was getting totally glossed over by the interviewer.

Mick Jones sounds like more of a man than JY. He acknowledges a 3rd wheel opening act, whereas JY has erased key elements, if not the one of the most important aspects of Styx' history.

Had a really rotten day at the office today. I'm feelin' bitchy.

funny, the band with most of its players at its peak, and with just as many hits as the other two plays 3rd billing.
Foreigner (as good or as bad as they are) are merely a Karaoke band with 1 member, and Journey its who knows how many times lead singer should be at least be sharing lead billing with Styx.

Styx' relevance evaporated a long, long time ago. Circa the 80's. Some fans don't want to face it but it's the truth. Now without out one of the key members that had much to do with their success makes that even more clear.

Styx hasn't had any sort of "renaissance" in decades. Journey had DSB go global, they've got a new singer that moved a million units at Walmart and they put out a #1 DVD. They were on Oprah, Ellen and a few other national programs, and that's reminded people about them and sparked some new interest, too.

Foreigner has worked hard at putting together the old fan base and put out a pretty solid record. Those Walmart exclusives really help at getting bands in the minds of the fans again. Kelly Hansen is great at what he does and the "brand" Foreigner still carries a lot of weight. These guys have toured with some big acts and have impressed. They piggy-backed off of the Def Leppard (and Styx) tour in 2007 and then toured alone and got a huge break by opening at the Zep reunion.

Styx have been in "relevance" disarray for a long time. They haven't gotten a break, they tour far too much and they don't seem to have anything new and exciting to offer. They're going to wallow in irrelevance and continue to play 2nd and 3rd fiddle unless they catch a huge break, get back with DeYoung or make some new killer music. Sadly, the only thing I think they're capable of doing to be relevant again is the aforementioned choice in the middle.

They have not been to Europe much in the past. Just like Journey, they had a member that didn't want to do those tours (or so the story goes). Journey went with Augeri and did well and created a scandal (TG). Then they went with Arnel and kicked ass. Styx will probably do very well there. Each gig leads to the next and so this could either open new doors for them, or they may not do the kind of business they hope to. To the person that said "Styx doesn't draw here, blah blah", I guess that's why they're still touring. They do well touring and their shows routinely do decent numbers FOR A BAND FROM THE 70s. The GI/PO8 show is a very "hardcore fan" event. MOST folks don't want to see two albums performed in their entirety and would rather hear the hits and nothing but the hits. People over here just don't have the attention span to sit through 2 albums of music but have to hear their favorite single- or the show is deemed a flop. Too bad because Styx's shows have been great. Reviews have been for the most part very favorable.

They will probably do okay over there.

The classic lineup of Styx was in Europe for a mini-tour in 1978, and toured there both on the Cornerstone and Paradise Theater.

The current lineup of Styx opened for Deep Purple a few years ago in the UK, and did a handful of European shows over the past 10 years.

I think collectively the classic lineup of Styx toured more outside North America than the current lineup.

All 3 bands are finished, Trying to pretend they are relevant which they all are not. Geesh Foreigner who the hell cares about them, It was Lou who made them great. Journey it was Perry, Neal and Cain who made them great. STYX it was Shaw and DeYoung who made them great.
Every band has broken up . If it were not from the drunks who want a night out to get loaded these band would draw nothing. Take away the beer at these shows and nobody shows up. Fans are not there for the music they are there for the beers.

So the whole "Dennis was holding us back from world domination" is a weak and bullshit argument.

What's your point?

Concerts have always been a reason to go get blitzed. Back in the day, it was a lot more than beer. Think there would be a Led Zep or Woodstock or Pink Floyd .... without beverages and other substances in abundance? Good music played loud, big crowds, lights and medication are all important ingredients to a great concert "experience." Take away everything but the good music, you'll draw about 50 diehards and that would be it.
