Foreigner (as good or as bad as they are) are merely a Karaoke band with 1 member, and Journey its who knows how many times lead singer should be at least be sharing lead billing with Styx.
Styx hasn't had any sort of "renaissance" in decades. Journey had DSB go global, they've got a new singer that moved a million units at Walmart and they put out a #1 DVD. They were on Oprah, Ellen and a few other national programs, and that's reminded people about them and sparked some new interest, too.
Foreigner has worked hard at putting together the old fan base and put out a pretty solid record. Those Walmart exclusives really help at getting bands in the minds of the fans again. Kelly Hansen is great at what he does and the "brand" Foreigner still carries a lot of weight. These guys have toured with some big acts and have impressed. They piggy-backed off of the Def Leppard (and Styx) tour in 2007 and then toured alone and got a huge break by opening at the Zep reunion.
Styx have been in "relevance" disarray for a
long time. They haven't gotten a break, they tour far too much and they don't seem to have anything new and exciting to offer. They're going to wallow in irrelevance and continue to play 2nd and 3rd fiddle unless they catch a huge break, get back with DeYoung or make some new killer music. Sadly, the only thing I think they're capable of doing to be relevant again is the aforementioned choice in the middle.
