That first set is so unrealistic it's laughable.

Thank you. Personally, a combination of the two would be perfect but, as is, the second one is obviously better. It's more well-rounded.

Outside of Love In The Midnight set two is all pre Cornerstone Styx.

Since most of us here are the die hard fans who here wouldnt of wanted to hear another Equinox, Grand Illusion, Pieces Of Eight sounding record post 1979???

Dennis said the times were a changin. So us Styx fans would not of embraced another Pieces Of Eight sounding record???

I consider myself a "die-hard fan" who likes a lot of the new and the old....even one or two songs off "Cyclorama" (one of which happens to be "Yes I Can" which is as soft as you can get)

This seems unrealistic to me. It looks like it was put together by someone who did not understand the kind of band Styx was.

Dennis' statement was about the shift in music style in general. it wouldn't apply to every single listener out there. That's why some bands (very few) continue to have success even though their music would be considered "dated". As a general rule I think it's hard for any band to pull that off.

Please enlighten me as to the kind of band Styx was.

My set # 1 included their ONLY #1 song plus another top 5 song from their ONLY #1 album. I would also argue that the song Paradise had it been released on The Paradise Theatre or Cornerstone albums would have been a top 5 hit. 'Dont Let It End' cracked the top 10, Boat On The River was their biggest worldwide hit and Show Me The Way also was a top 5 hit in 1990 meaning Styx had top 5 hits in the 70's 80's and 90's.

Set 1 is pretty damn impressive!!!

As for set #2 these songs are all pre Cornerstone and are songs that as DDY put it were on their way out in 1979. Remember Styx needed to change their style to survive and prosper. Personally, I dont believe that, and I tend to agree with something Dennis also said in that a good song is a good song in any era. To me he was talking out of both sides of his mouth. The times had not changed Dennis had. I believe at the time he was disappointed in what he brought to the table for Pieces Of Eight and he personally wanted to change directions. Since his was the signature Styx voice he could dictate what the band must do.

Again, I loved Cornerstone & Paradise Theatre. Still I liked Equinox, The Grand Illusion & Pieces Of Eight far more. I would also say that Dennis & Styx were far better on Equinox etc...., then they were on Cornerstone etc. His songs and the entire groups songs were better and more complex. Their musicianship was better.

To each his own.

Had Styx come out with another album or two that were like The Grand Illusion or Pieces Of Eight I for one believe they would have been HUGE!!!!!

Now enlighten me!

P.S. I was actually going to also put 'Yes I Can' on Set #1 as a bonus but I didnt want the argument to come up that Cyclorama was not a 'real' Styx album.

What I meant is I could never see them putting together set lists like this. They always seemed to have a balance between their rock and ballad material. They were a band that had writers with different styles that complimented each other. I never felt they leaned one direction more then the other.
