About as close of a compliment that Brydork will give DDY.

Loph, when Dennis does something good, I always say so. Mr. Roboto and First time are not good (in my opinion as a Styx fan since 76) and do not deserve the blind compliments that you and those like you hand out to him while you're humping his leg. They just don't. Especially the latter.

I'm not like some here that just pick a side and (no matter what) stick to that side of the fence and whiz on the other side. You've got the market cornered there. DeYoung's a great singer. I've always said so. His latest album was mostly a good one with the exception of about 3 really lame tracks. It's easily his best and most cohesive solo record. The songs on it that were good were really good. He's responsible for a LOT of Styx's fame (duh). Never said otherwise. However, it's my view that his choice of songwriting direction is the main reason the fan base was divided. It also was one of the main factors (not the sole one) for the band's breakup. Having said that, I will say that I really dig the way Dennis has handled his side of the breakup. He's been nothing but classy about it. JY, not so much. Tommy- I really haven't heard him be crappy about it either. And Gowan (who people seem to crap on daily here) has also been extremely gracious about the position that he finds himself in, yet people here just continue to dog him. Ridiculous.

But hey, it's 2011 and it's ancient history. It doesn't matter anymore, though some here just haven't noticed that the calendar has moved past 1983.

Regarding his web site, the fact is, his site before was ridiculously amateur for an artist of his reputation and stature. There were other, better DeYoung sites out there and Dennis SHOULD have said "Hey you with that really boss Me website, why don't we make your site my official one? It's great." Instead, he had a site built that looked like it ought to be selling hangnail medicine instead of a rock entertainer. As Dennis admits, he thought the internet was a fad and he treated it as if it didn't matter. Pretty dumb move and he totally could've capitalized on it earlier had he not been so "old" about it. I think "awesome" is a bit strong for his new site, but it's definitely better than it was.

Glad to see you're still going to be an ass in 2011 Toph.

Don't lump ALL of us Dennis fans into that

You're entitled to your opinion of how things went bad in the Styx camp, I will respectfully disagree. Yes Dennis does handle it with class, mebbe JY is finally taking a hint since you don't hear him say that much about it anymore. I have been know to crack a joke at Gowan's expense, but he is truly a talented man in his own right

Most of us have moved on, and I do agree with his former site needing a major overhaul. Not all people own a computer, and Dennis is prolly finally realizing that reaching out to his fans via the worldwide web is a smart move 8)

For a musician today to not have an online presence... well, one has to ask "Are they serious?". It's laughable. Sorry, but it is. "So you're in business with music and want to be taken seriously? Get a site." That's an entire segment of fans that are both hardcore and impulsive. For any artist to NOT have his tunes available for instant download, in 2011, is just an entire impulsive market that's being missed. Granted, there's pirating going on. But the market today is online, not in the record stores. I didn't get Glenn's last album until it was available ONLINE. I'm not going to send 15.00 plus shipping and handling when I can spend 10.00 and have it NOW. For Styx and Dennis and some other bands, I ALWAYS buy a CD. For others that aren't my favorite bands, I don't do this. Actually, now that I think about it, I didn't buy Dennis' latest album (wish I did actually). Mp3s are not (for sure) as good as a CD for sound (duh) but it's not that big of a deal to me unless it's something that I'm really excited about.

It could be that Dennis is not interested in capturing the "online fans" or he is happy with the current state and pace of his solo career. I doubt that he is hard up for money or is looking to launch huge solo act. Now that may frustrate and confuse some of his fan base which is understandable. AS far as Dennis' opinion of the internet, I don't think he ever looked at it as a "fad". It was other issues he has with it. I think the song "I Don't Believe in Anything" on OYFN makes it pretty clear what he thinks about it.

I find it interesting that your post talks about people needing to move on. Yet at every turn you seem to keep harping on the past when it comes some of DDY's past material such as First Time and Roboto. Even when the post you are replying to isn't on that subject. So it seems to me in some ways you haven't moved on either.

Actually, that song, though I like it, sounds like an old guy who's afraid of technology. Sounds like my gramma "I can't turn on the TV!!!". Pretty strange coming from a guy that's into synths. Still, when you're a musician, the object of the game is to sell more albums. The internet and a good site could've really helped him there a great deal. Not to mention, he needs to promote the site. Even if Dennis isn't that involved with it, his record company should've built him something to promote 100YFN. He missed the boat by not using the net to promote the crap out of it. There are no longer radio stations and tv channels just waiting to help these guys out. They need to think differently and go where the people are. MANY are online.

Take that song "F You" by Cee Lo (or whatever the guy's name is). He sold BUTTLOADS of that single and download by using Youtube to do it. Granted, it was pretty much a novelty tune (but a good one) and he's raking in dough. ANY band, not just Dennis DeYoung, should harness that. If he's satisfied with his career as it is, great. I think he'd rather be on top than on the bottom though.

I don't have the same take on IDBIA. It seems more to me he is pointing out how people take stuff on the internet as the truth and how it can distort reality. The fact that people can post about anything and do it anonymously or hide behind a screen name. As far as how DDY has or hasn't used the internet to promote his solo career I think it just shows that he is happy with what he is getting out of it and is not looking to greatly expand it further then what it is. It more like he is doing what he does to keep busy.

Sorry if that bothers you but after all you posted it in a public forum. If it was that personal of a post then maybe you should have sent a private message. As far as what I said, you just seem to keep harping or bringing up when ever you can your dislike of songs like First Time and Roboto. Those songs are in the past and in the same breath you are preaching to others that they need to let the past go and move on. To me it seems like a contradiction, thats all.
