You should. I'd be interested in what you think about it.

Interesting. I would think that the band members have enough backbone to look at a review that is positive, negative or in between. If they don't by now then they never will and are in the wrong business if they can't. Just because someone is a fan doesn't mean that they have to be positive or politically correct about every project a band does. Just be honest about your viewpoint. Since you are pondering about posting it, then it leads me to believe that it's not a very favorable review. Quoting from "Double Life", "Honesty is the Best Policy".

I think people should know me by now and know I have no problem stating my opinion. I'm just not sure what I have to say at this point adds anything to the mix. It's not a cop out, I'm just over it all.

I never did wind up hearing this other than on YouTube. But I kinda felt like, why try to review a product that is re-recordings, and only available at shows (at the time)? I didn't think it made sense to try to review it, any more than I ever review Greatest Hits packages. It's not a "new" album in the traditional sense. The people that support this lineup are gonna like it, and the people that don't are gonna hate it, and nothing that can be said or written will change that one iota. So fuck it, why put yourself in the line of fire, is kinda my feeling.

Also quoting from "Double Life" - "It's not always honesty that is the best policy," LOL.

That said, I'm not disparaging this album because I've never even heard it.

I see and I know that you speak your mind. I am just curious as to what you think about the EP.

i picked it up at the billy bob's show. the packaging is really nice!!! ;)

the biggest problem with the album- they should not have included lorelei on it. jy's voice sounds severely compressed and produced. you hear a big difference in the vocals here, than the other 6 songs on the ep. otherwise, there isn't much of a difference between the versions on here than the originals. i think crystal ball has longer guitar solos. i do miss hearing dennis' distinctive harmony in the chorus of the crystal ball. Otherwise, tommy sounds great, i like larry better on the grand illusion than CSA, but his playing is top notch. Ricky's bass is a bit too loud in the mix. it really bothered me on one of the songs (i'd have to listen again to remember which one) You definitely notice the drums more, which is a good thing. I haven't listened to the cd in a few weeks, but those were some of my original impressions. i know sterling and allan would be able to give you a more "technical" review.

they really didn't change enough of the songs here to make this a Must Have. i would have liked some different interpretations, like the bluesy version of BCM on BBT. Maybe they will include the original slowed down, dirgy renegade on the next one.

Good forbid, Allen say anything negative about the band....wouldn't want to get JY's feathers ruffled up!

It didn't even know this was coming out! :D

Mad props to Shaw for trying something different!

This is exactly what an artist should do with a solo album!

I will say this is the most I've looked forward to anything new by Shaw since I heard Ambition was coming out. I am looking forward to hearing it. The clips sounded fantastic.

This is why I felt this EP is a waste of time. Why put out something out that basically is not much different from the originals. It would have made more sense if they changed the arrangements and put a different spin on the songs. To me it just like yet another live recording. God knows we really don't need more of that from this band.

The reason Styx and other bands are re-recording their songs is because it gives them the ability to license the re-recordings without having to share the royalties. For Styx, it also gives them the ability to license versions with the way the band sounds now.

That may be the case but from a fan perspective it's pointless. Just my .02

Baron,
Digging your user name. I am a huge Saigon Kick fan. Got everything they put out. They should have been huge. Saw them twice on the Lizard tour. Wow they were great. Missed out on getting Jason's solo disc though, too bad.

Got it all too. Great, great stuff. Love Jason's solo disc and all the BVB Demos from the now defunct site. I think Phil Varone wants people to believe there is gonna be a reunion with he, Matt, Chris and Jason to gather more attention to his Facebook. It'd be great if it were true.
