Very nice.I love shit like that.
Every time I drive to my cottage, I see collapsing barns and abandoned century homes left to crumble.
I want to stop and shoot pictures of these .
When I went to Detroit for my kids hockey tourney,I heard about tours to abandoned buildings ,theatres and factories.
But no time to do that unfortunately.
My favourite ghost town is Humberstone in Chile. An old sulpher nitrate (I believe) mining complex, left to rot after minerals was found elsewhere for cheaper mining.
I was there in 92.Try and google it.

Good luck with your photo blog.

That abandoned buildings tour sound wild! I would love to find an old ghost town but I don't know of one in the area, I'll have to check with some friends of mine that are area historians. I have found an abandoned roller rink that has been closed up since the early '60's, I'm hoping to get out there in the next couple of weeks. I'm hoping the old stakeing floor is still in some kind of shape.

Really a nice site, V! We have so many old barns and sheds in my area that look like that. You always wonder what function they served, how long before they were abandoned, etc.

Bugsy

Exactly, I think that is what gets me about these places, the history hidden in them. I actuall have pictures I'll be posting this weekend of a 170+ year old log building that was my Great Uncles home before he passed. It's still in the family but no longer lived in. My dad found a picture of it from, we think, sometime in the early 1930's when it was my great grandfathers home. The contrast between the two is pretty cool.

Nice site and photos. I've always enjoyed looking at places like this. Recently I have been looking at old closed down amusement parks that were left to rot. Some are still standing and some have been bulldozed now to make room for shopping centers and parking lots.

You can get lost on this wiki with all the sites about each park and the photos.

Speaking of Maggie Valley, there is a ghost town that use to be an amusement park. Closed now after rains and flooding and land slides.

One of many rides the ghost town had. This one was called cliffhanger.

Just finished my paper and found out they now do tours of Chernobyl.Wouldn't that be something?
So if you ever go to Ukraine ,the town of Pripyat, there is something for you to do,if you like ghost towns.

Check for film on youtube.

Looks like an interesting place to visit and walk through.

If you go, be sure to take your geiger counter and radiation suit. Better safe and sorry even though they say the radiation isn't enough to hurt you.

Also I just updated the blog with pictures from the old Tennessee State Prison - made famous in the films "Shawshank Redemption" " The Green Mile" and "The Castle"
I did a bit of trespassing and was able to get some good stuff before I was run off. Let me know what you think.

I remember seeing something the other day about six flags over NO when I was looking at the video of Chernobyl. The video I saw was a news report saying that the park was up for sale, and that it could be torn down if it doesn't get sold. Just read on another page about the park that Southern Star Amusement bought the park and has plans to reopen it later. http://www.southernstaramusement.com/index.cfm

Great photos of the prison as well.
