Straight out of the WTF box comes this revelation - Tom Cruise to star in the Rock Of Ages movie. I love the idea that this thing could be turned into a movie, but Tom Cruise??? This from Billboard:

"Tom Cruise will soon be belting some classic rock staples as the star of "Rock of Ages," an upcoming film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical which showcases popular rock songs from the 70s and 80s. According to NME, the actor will star as Stacee Jaxx, an aging musician whose glory days are long past, in the movie version of the stage production. Among the tunes Cruise will perform include Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive" and Styx's "Renegade." "I think we're going to see him every drop the rock'n'roll god," says director Adam Shankman, who also helmed 2007 movie musical "Hairspray." "He's pouring himself in this part in a way I've never had an actor do. It's pretty intense." Anne Hathaway is rumored to be vying for the role of Sherrie, who sings a duet of Foreigner's "I Want to Know What Love Is" with Cruise's character. Other performers rumored to take part in the adaptation, which is scheduled to begin filming in May, include Russell Brand, Taylor Swift and Alec Baldwin".

That's a great way for Tom Cruise to dispel all the homosexuality rumors: by starring in a camp movie.

Seriously, that guy is like Reverse King Midas now...everything he touches turns to shite! That's what being a member of a brainwashing, gay-hating, family-dividing, blackmailing, greedy cult will do to you.

Sorry, the Cruiser didn't do it for me in that movie. It was basically an ad hominem attack on Sumner Redstone, who had fired Cruise a few years back for his assinine comments about post-partum depression and 'evil' psychiatrists.

Of course Cruise's PR team started trumpeting "The Les Grossman Movie"...two years now and still no sight of it. Pure hype!

It seems that the more one learns about a celebrity's private life, the more that judgment bleeds over into their work. Tom Cruise has done really, really good work in many films. Not a problem with people until some of the odder aspects of his personal beliefs began to change how some (maybe many) felt about him.

The celebs who keep things quiet and personal, and don't "share" so much, do better in the court of public opinion, IMO.

On the topic here, my concern is that the parts in the movie version of this play are maybe not cast with the best choices, both musical ability-wise and age-wise. I haven't seen the musical, but those actors listed are way older than the ones in the parts now.

I have heard that the performers, particularly Constantine, in Rock of Ages are really, really good. Russell Brand is going to maybe play this part? Not sure about that one.

Yeah, a dose of Scientology is EXACTLY what Rock Of Ages needs.

i saw rock of ages 2 times. the first was a "reading" to get funding from investors for an off broadway run. the 2nd time was when it finally made it to broadway. one or two cast members from the reading actually appear in the broadway show. i liked constantine, and hope they decide to keep him in the movie. russle brand is out of his mind! IMO, he's too old for the role.
