Will Styx ever get to 4x platinum?

According to RIAA, the last time any Styx album release (outside of GH) was certified in a platinum category was in 1984. You would think that 27 years of sales, one release (GI, P08, Cornerstone, PT) would have achieved enough sales to go to 4x platinum? Heck even Greatest Hits has stalled at 2x platinum (last certification 2005). Do the math - you mean that Greatest Hits can't sell 15,000 copies a year? Or that Grand Illusion hasn't averaged selling 4,000 copies a year since 1984? I find that hard to believe.
Maybe RIAA just doesn't certify older albums anymore?

Just wait. I am sure that these Regeneration releases will surpass the sales from anything from Styx' back catalog.

I'm sure GI has surpassed the 4x platinum mark by now, I mean I doubt it was exactly at 3x platinum in 1984. It could have been 3.3 or something like that. The same goes for the rest of the multi-platinum Styx albums. They won't recertify. Styx will always be stuck with the numbers they have.

The label the record was released under has to request the certification. Most of these legacy artists are two or three times removed from their original record companies. There's really no incentive for Sony, Warner, ect. to pay an audit fee for an artist who isn't with them anymore.

Not to mention what would that get them anyway. Maybe impress the person who would spend the time to look it up and that is not saying much. It's not like that is going to make the RNR Hall of Fame come knocking.
