On My Way...

... is such a great song. It bums me out for what might have been. Paradise is a great song as well, but Dear John is more sad than great... though I am not saying it's a bad song at all. I always wondered why Tommy wrote that song instead of DDY. Dennis knew him a lot longer and was in a band with him a lot longer. Maybe it was just too close to home for him to do. Anyways, those a great songs from an awesome souvenir type album. Still, it really bums me out for what might have been.

Tommy and John were partners in crime on the road and developed a bond.

I do remember reading somewhere that Tommy said that Dennis wrote the bridge of "Dear John" (We'll have a celebration...when all will be revealed...). Its uncredited to him.

Funny you mention this. I pulled RTP out for the first time in a few years last weekend, and thought the exact same thing. I think On My Way is in the Styx Top 10. It's an incredible song, and all I too could think about was what could have been. That, and Dear John - proof that "they", as a collection, still had it.

GREAT Song!!!

I also felt that Paradise could have been a top 5 song had it been released back around Styx's primetime. Dear John was also very good. All 3 of Styx's new songs off of Return To Paradise were EXCELLENT. Add Little Suzie, It Takes Love and the song that Dennis & Glen performed together on their tour and you would of had the makings of a #1 album.

My feeling exactly. They could have kept that train rolling, but it seemed recording a new studio album was too much.

What was too much was that Chuck stabbed Dennis in the back. Nice to know that you can count on your partners that were with you from the start.

I heard that if you play On My Way backwards, you will hear the message "Dennis you better start packing".

It is a bit surprising that Chuck would continue with Styx without Dennis. He, John and DDY formed the band for crying out loud. Even JY is technically "not" an original member. They added Curulewski and were Tradewinds and then TW4... meaning four members. It is a stab in the back.

It is a shame since it seems it was Chuck's vote that sealed Dennis' fate. I would think that hurt Dennis more then any other aspect of the break up.

And I'm sure when Dennis tried to prevent Chuck's name from being on BNW because he was so sick at that time he couldn't get through sessions Chuck thought that was cool.

First, that's bullshit. But secondly, if Chuck couldn't play, why wouldn't you give credit to the person who was actually on it?

Interesting, I never got to read his book except for some sample pages on line. I could see where that would not sit well with Chuck. But honestly, if he had no involvement with the project then I can somewhat see Dennis' point.

This is the first time I've heard that. What is the source of this information?

Chuck himself wrote it in his "Love, Lies, and My Life With Styx" book

Interesting, I never got to read his book except for some sample pages on line. I could see where that would not sit well with Chuck. But honestly, if he had no involvement with the project then I can somewhat see Dennis' point.

Dennis wanted Chuck out of styx because he was gay and had AIDS and that didn't sit well with his catholic beliefs.

Your source for this information is what?

Ask him.

Really, that's your proof he made this statement? So weak. You have got to have something better then that to back up a statement like that. I would be careful too, people get sued for making false quotes.
