How exciting to hear amateur hour guitar work on classics like Golden Country, 157 and Ridin' the Storm Out.
REO was my favorite band as a kid. That ended around '89.

I guess I can assume you're a Richrath fan.

It is possible to enjoy the past and the present. Unfortunately some folks can't.

In regards to bands and original members or replacements that count for 50% or more of the current line-up I guess you could enjoy both. That is if you set the bar low enough.

Well styx was here @ summerfest tonight and yours truly was front row infront of larry (sorry babyblue ). Able to get up front through the help of a friend who i owe many to now. Left early after miss america to beat traffic. Chicagostyx this will more then likely be the setlist you get tomorrow @ ribfest. So here it is not in order of course::

blue collar man
grand illusion
lady
too much time
castle walls
i'm ok
miss america
come sail away
walrus (most likely)
renegade
crystal ball
fooling yourself
man in the wilderness
lorelei

Pretty sure that's it. Also nice to get a smile and a nod from JY and a smile from tommy 8) Also good that chuck was in attendance.

Or if you just enjoy the band and don't dwell that ONE member is not there.

Coming from THE sheep, that's good to know.

Dude, listen to those 3 songs off of "You Get What You Play For". Richrath's playing made that album as well as the rest of their live shows. If you get boners from Kevin's gay stories? That's on you.

I prefer killer guitar work.

I've always thought Dave Amato's playing was true to what Richrath wrote.

I guess, if you apply the set the bar low enough theory. Maybe not if the person that replaces that ONE member SUCKS at performing the former members songs. Plus the band then has to avoid good songs in their catalog simply because the replacement can't pull them off.

Richrath is a serviceable guitarist....nothing more. A classic member of the band. A singer is much more important than a guitarist as far as to the integrity of the sound. If Schon had left and not Perry - and you had Josh Ramos, of Vic Rivera come in to the band to play guitar - the band wouldn't have skipped a beat....I haven't cared about REO in over 25 years....and even then I wasn't thrilled about the axe work. I never looked at REO as a guitar band. Same thing with Toto. never really looked at them as a guitar band either.

Listen man your free to love what you love i have no problem with that i'm just stating my opinion that's all. On a side note i have a friend like you that has seen them every year since 1974. At first he hated amato and didn't see them for years. It was only until a few years ago he saw the band again (on accident no less) and fell in love with them all over again. Take that for what it's worth.

Exactly. While dave's not the greatest guitar player in the world he's passable.

You are entitled to your opinion as i am to disagree with it. Larry can pull off all the songs some more than others. It is only a matter of time. They have to do x ammount of songs just like dennis. If they had more time they could play everything if they wanted to. Do they play the greatest set list ever no but they don't have a choice just like dennis. They have to play the stuff the people came there to hear with the addition of the deep cut every now and then.
