I think you are way past delusional if you really believe you are doing any justice to the position you now rent. STYX was a multi platinum band and since you arrived you have turned that into multi aluminum. You may be a great piano player but so was Liberace. Dennis is healthy and has been nothing but a gentleman during this entire fiasco. For you to sit there for 1200 shows and defame this band is beyond belief, How do you do it pal ? Are you a STYX fan? If you are than even you should want to see the classic line up do it's magic again. It's time Larry it really is thanks for your service YOUR FROYERD,

Do you seriously think that JY would ever want to work with Dennis again? Do you think that JY would ever leave Styx to allow Dennis to return? Do you seriously think that Dennis would ever agree to the type of touring schedule that the other members seem to want to do? Since Dennis does primarily weekend events and less number of shows I don't think so. If he was to return he would have to agree to tour more then he is doing now. I get the impression that his touring schedule is based on his personal preference rather then opportunities available to him.

I am gonna go out on a limb with this one and agree with Froy. Maybe not to the extreme as he puts it, but the basic idea... yes. Gowan does need to go. Has any pro Gowan fans here went back and watched Return to Paradise DVD lately... or at all? Do you think they were an "opening" band on that tour or the next? Do you see the venue size difference they play at these days. And don't throw out Wembley because we all know why those fans were there. I am talking here in the states. Also, the difference in crowd size. That's why they can't take time to record a new album because they have to tour all year and the time they take off is needed for rest and sanity from the daily tour grind. Now, I love Styx... they are my favorite band. How many here can say that? I want them to do well, in any form... but let's be realistic. They need Dennis. Now I'm not delusional... they wouldn't be headlining and packing in stadiums even DDY were back in the band, but the difference in venue size and crowd draw would be apparent. And then they would be able to take 6 months off to write and record a "proper" album instead of fitting in rerecords in between incessant touring. I really don't understand any fascination with Lawrence Gowan... great keyboardist/pianist... awful lead vocalist. Does fine in the background, but that doesn't cut it for Styx. They need another lead vocalist, they need Dennis. Dennis needs them. Despite what others say on here claiming both sides are happy... are you delirious? Do you think they enjoy being opening bands for the likes of Pat Benatar or Foreigner? Hell, a rejoined Styx wouldn't open for Journey in it's current state. Things need to be put back soon, nobody is getting any younger.

I can agree that I never cared for Larry replacing Dennis. I gave him a chance and he just doesn't do anything for me. However, I think Dennis' desire not to have a lengthy tour schedule is a basic conflict that the other band members will not compromise on. Not to mention the other deep rooted issues they have had. I would also argue that Dennis' return wouldn't allow them to do bigger venues or have higher attendance at shows. At least not a major difference. The reality is Styx' level of popularity among the classic rock acts is what it is and most likely will not change. The average concert goer is "the casual fan" who could care less if all the key original members are there. Ass long as the band sings the familiar and popular songs they are known for the casual fan feels they got their money's worth. Sad but true. I would agree that their shows would be much better with Dennis since his stamp was all over Styx and they can't do quite a bit of things without him. It's not they want to avoid a lot of Dennis' songs (except Babe, maybe), it's because they have to. The replacement they have has a hard time pulling them off. He just does not have the right kind of voice and persona for a lot of Dennis' work in Styx.

You really have to throw all the excuses of the past out the window as the Barron said time is moving fast, Its time for a new band and if you read the Daily Herald article it sure looks as if Gowan knows this is the last tour with him.

I'm just glad that Dennis has managed to put together such an incredible band for himself. I really, really ,really love his shows. In face, I can almost say that I feel better about seeing Dennis and his current band than I would about seeing a reunited Styx because of all the bullshit from the past. Dennis has a fresh start; he has some of the coolest guys in music playing in his band, and a lot of people are going to his shows. He basically started over in 2000 and has really climbed back to the top of the Styx world. His band easily trounces what Tommy and JY have put together and he's getting to do things exactly his way. I say long live the current band that Dennis has. They're easily my favorite group to see in concert. As for Tommy/JY, well they'll realize sooner or later that they have the Styx name but not much more.

Changes could come but I doubt Dennis is included in any of them. I am not looking at excuses of the past. I am looking at the present situation. JY has made it clear that in no way does he prefer to have Dennis back in Styx. I do not believe that Dennis and the other members could come to a compromise on the amount of touring they want to do. Furthermore, Dennis seems quite content with his current situation. He has put to together a solid band with people he can work with. He can choose how and what he wants to perform without having to get others to agree with him. He can do as little or as much touring as he wishes without having to compromise with anyone. If a new album opportunity presents itself, Dennis can do it totally his way and won't have to contend with others not wanting to do the same kind of material. He has been very successful with his solo career so far. From what I can see he seems quite happy with how things have turned out and doesn't seem to dwell on mot being part of Styx at this point. Maybe since he has been going solo for so long now he has come to the position that this is better for him then what he may have originally thought it would be. Now, I am not saying that he would not seriously consider returning to Styx if an offer was made. But, IMHO I don't think that's going to occur. I get the felling that the lawsuit left a bad taste in everyone's mouths and sealed Dennis fate as far as not being asked to return. I'm not saying that Dennis didn't not have the right to bring the lawsuit, he certainly did. Would I like to see them reunite, sure as many others would. But what you have remember is we are not the ones that have to deal with the drama and issues that happen behind the scenes.

What Herald article?

Now I'm not delusional... they wouldn't be headlining and packing in stadiums even DDY were back in the band, but the difference in venue size and crowd draw would be apparent. And then they would be able to take 6 months off to write and record a "proper" album instead of fitting in rerecords in between incessant touring. I really don't understand any fascination with Lawrence Gowan... great keyboardist/pianist... awful lead vocalist. Does fine in the background, but that doesn't cut it for Styx. Do you think they enjoy being opening bands for the likes of Pat Benatar or Foreigner? Hell, a rejoined Styx wouldn't open for Journey in it's current state. Things need to be put back soon, nobody is getting any younger.

ding ding ding....we have a winner here....bring out the big first prize!!!! love this post.

Styx stopped being a multi platnium band while DDY was still in the band, Kilroy (depending which sales figures you go with), Caught In The Act, Edge Of Centruy, Brave New World and Return to Paradise.

True they have sold more cds than the current line up, but the current line up has really only released one studio cd of new material.

I could not possibly disagree more. His contributions to Cyclorama are amongst my favorites on that album. He brings a songwriting style that balances well against Tommy's, just like DDY's used to...except....you lose the bubble-gummy/syrupy over top top gushing stuff that I fould Dennis went to all too often. He puts on a great performance live, and he easily handles the DDY lead songs.

Oh...and....as if age made a difference....I'm old enough to have been a fan back in the day AND today.

Now...what they really need to do...is write another freakin' album....with actual Styx songs...not this cover BS. Cyclorama was a great album....more please!

The fans have been saying this for how long now? Years. If you are looking for a band that is going to put out a full album of new material it's not this band. Just go by Tommy's comments on the subject. I believe he said something like "The fans want the classics". This seems to be the stance of those in power and direction of the current Styx. There is not enough money in it to get them motivated to do this. They are to busy with performing which is where the real money is. Their objective is to rake in the profits with what is mostly a sure thing. They want to put money in the bank for retirement.
