Yesterday marked the 30TH anniversary of MTV. They played the first hour EXACTLY as it appeared back in 1981. The next to last song they played in that hour was Styx's Rockin The Paradise. It was a good live video.

My question is, Styx released this to MTV, was this also released to radio?


It sure was GREAT seeing them all John DDY Chuck Tommy & JY, again!!

I don't think (but I could be wrong) that RTP was released to radio. We know Best of Times and Too Much Time were the singles, and I remember hearing Snowblind a lot on local AOR stations, but as for RTP, I really don't know.

O/T, but I was disappointed with Vh1Classic's 30th Anniversary weekend. I didn't watch all of it, but what I did see was a lot of the stuff that made me stop watching MTV in the first place (award show clips, reality clips, Britney Spears, bleah!), and it seemed that every time I turned on the channel, they were airing repeats of clips I'd seen already. You'd think, with 30 years of programming to choose from, they'd have nothing to repeat! Plus, I was hoping to see a lot more videos and more clips of the original VJs. MTV was so great in the 80s, but I did not see much of that reflected this past weekend.

It was like they were running a loop tape all weekend. They just kept repeating the same stuff over and over and only airing the first hour of MTV at 12AM August 1st. Kinda sucked.

When I first subscribed to get VH1 Classic, it was SUCH a great channel. You could see nearly every classic MTV video. They had all-request hours (which enabled me to see Boomchild and This is the Time). Desert Moon was in regular rotation on the channel. Nearly every Styx video played at one time or another. I even belonged to a message board dedicated to it with some great people to discuss the videos with.

Then, it became a commercial pile of crap like the two stations that spawned it -- MTV and VH1.

I tuned out and almost never watch it anymore, as it seems there are mostly boring movies and occasional "theme" hours that show the same videos over and over and over ad nauseum.

What a waste of potential.

Not to Top 40 (a mistake IMO) but to rock radio where it peaked at #8. Big time rock track - much bigger than Znowblind which didn't crack the top 20 rock tracks.

This song should have been the third pop single off the album. Start where the guitar kicks in with no AD1928 and it would have been a too 10 single.

When we did have it, I loved watching Pop-Up Videos

I think all 3 of the music channels went to pot; MTV was so great in the 80s, then Vh1 came along and, when MTV started all the other non-music programming, Vh1 played all the 80s videos (it was initially created for that purpose), and then it changed formats. Vh1 Classic was initially great, but now it just seems to air "The Greatest___________" specials and metal shows. I'd love for another video channel to come along and feature nothing but promos and videos from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. There is such a market for old-style school music, classic music, that I would think the channel would be a success.
