Tommy Shaw...

I'm listening to the test pressing of a limited edition of the original Pieces of Eight album that will soon be available on 180 gram vinyl. What a pleasant surprise and quite frankly an unexpected flashback to the the first time I heard it on vinyl in 1978. It comes across as beautifully sizzling and punchy on this disc as I remember it sounding in the studio when we were mixing it. Every song a pleasant experience as I listen down.
On the opening track "The Great White Hope" I got a visual of John Panozzo behind his drums that put a big smile on my face. If you've been toying with the idea of getting a turntable or taking your old one out of storage, this might be the album that makes that decision a little easier to make, and could kick that door open to the wonderful world of sound that awaits.
The title track "Pieces of Eight" is playing now. Gotta sing along!

Gee, I'm surprised that he didn't find a way to plug the Regurgitation versions. Something like those were good recordings but the new ones are soo much more rockin'.

I had heard Tommy, talking about this one.I still have vinyl.I will have to check it out.Thanks for share this & your views about it.

AHHH! So in a way, Tommy DID just harmonize with Dennis again!!!

I will take what I can get! Even if it was just Dennis' Recorded voice!!!

P08 is one of my favorite Styx Albums. And I will never forget putting it on MY Turntable to listen to if for the first time on the day it came out back in 1978 after a looooong bike ride to Tower Records to pick it up!!! And after my first listen I remember thinking to myself how GREAT the album sounded and How AWESOME "Queen of Spades" was!

Is it OK if I pick Queen of spades as my favourite of that album.

GREAT GREAT album.

My first listen was out on the beach. My brothers old green Gremlin was parked. His Craig cassette deck was turned all the way up and his Jensen speakers were rockin.

What a FANTASTIC album!!!! When we left we noticed that we had been parked in a huge pile of whale vomit. It didnt even matter because their follow up to The Grand Illusion was soooooooooo damn good!!

So many great songs on this album. It is one reason it ranks second on my all-time favorites list behind "Equinox."

Gr8, "Queen of Spades" is my second fave, but gotta go with the title track. One of DDY's very best songs ever.

I dont know what the hell blue grass is but in order to like the shi t on that CD you would need far heavier drugs than grass.

Out On a Day Pass and What If are grammy winners compared to that crap.
