It doesn't really matter does it? Sure, it is petty and silly which just reflects back on Tommy and JY exposing their immaturity. Everyone who is familiar with Styx knows Dennis was a huge part of it and the impact his vision and contributions helped make Styx the great success it was. I'm sure Dennis is not losing any sleep over it at this point. No matter how they try, they will always be sitting in the shadow of Dennis and nothing they do will change that fact. Just as you look at the PT shirt issue as ridiculous so do many others. The only ones that don't have no clue as to what an impact Dennis made on Styx.

I would just love to have a sit-down with Tommy and JY and simply ask, Why??

Seriously, what is the point? Any new fan to come along would buy a "classic" album, look at the list of band members, see DDY there, maybe go to the website to learn about him, and see...nothing. What does that tell a fan new to the band? Sure, some teenager probably wouldn't care, but I'm sure others would wonder. It just makes the band seem very small, and petty. What's wrong with showing a little class? They can hate DDY all they want, but at least show a little grace and maturity. Hell, I'm no fan of DDY, but even I am disturbed by the total erasing that has been done. It really tarnishes all the good memories I have of the heyday years.

I have gone to a couple of Dennis' shows so far this year in Different parts of California. And both times he spoke fondly of his former band mates. He did the same when I saw him in on the East Coast a few years back and again in Sacramento several years ago.
He continues to say nothing but nice things about them and to this day says he is the biggest Styx fan in the world and is very proud of what they accomplished together. He should be. They were the greatest band ever in my opinion.

I have no idea if JY or Tommy are directly responsible for the petty things that are going on in the Styx Camp, but any real Styx fan knows that Styx was Dennis, Tommy, JY, Chuck and John together. Period.
And I don't care what anybody says. If Dennis did not exist, Tommy and JY would NOT be able to tour today as Styx and continue to make money. It is IMPOSSIBLE to deny that fact. So they better start showing some friggin respect. Trying to erase Dennis from their history is the most childish thing I have ever seen. If they want to "take the high road" as JY has said and move on from Dennis, that's fine.
But they have NO RIGHT to deny his past contributions. Because without Dennis DeYoung's Existence THEY would not exist as a band.
I tried to support both sides of this mess after the breakup because I loved all members of the band equally. But if these guys want to erase Dennis from their history, then I have lost all respect for them and they really have NO RIGHT to be calling themselves Styx.

Just because someone points out how someone or a group of people by their actions are acting childish and immature doesn't mean you are looking to change them or the situation. It's just pointing out how pathetic they look doing and saying those things. When people pointed out at how Charlie Sheen was making an ass out of himself they were not looking to change or help him. I look at this the same way. Styx and it's current members are free to do what ever they want. Some here are are just pointing out how ridiculous they make themselves look.

Dude. I could literally spend days pulling posts from members in this forum alone who have "pointed out" this very thing on a steady and regular basis. This posts is one of hundreds, possibly thousands like it, as are the replies. It's no longer an observation, it's an obsession. If it's that emotionally upsetting for some of you, then take some action. Or move on. I promise, you've made your point already.

One of the great things about DDY is that he has moved on, and he seems to be trying to put positive vibes out there. That should speak for itself. The incessant whining & bellyaching doesn't serve him.

You know Zan, I would, honestly, shut up about the whole thing, if the current version of the band didn't go out of its way to try and alienate DDY fans and by purposely erasing his contributions and presence. It's the revisionist history that really irks me. They are full of shit and if they continue to be full of shit in their actions, then DDY fans will call them out on it. Apparently, it is.

It's like this: Dennis has his fans, Tommy has his, JY has his, etc. Some of us like it all, but some of us have our preferences. Some of us have deep emotional ties to the band's legacy, and some of us don't. The band knows this, but in the grand scheme of it all, it's a business before it is anything. We can go back to playing chicken or the egg with regard to the split and water under their bridges (though, I'd rather have a pap smear to be wholly honest), but once lawyers got involved in "Styx," the rules changed. Everyone knew going into the legalities that this would forever change things, for better or worse, and everyone chose to move forward with it because to them, the alternatives weren't working for them (I am NOT laying blame anywhere. All sides had their "stuff" going on. I'm only saying that lawyers needed to be involved because there was no other way to settle their grievances).

To top it off, there are deep resentments among some of the players now, probably have been all along, but now there is no chance of reconciliation. It's sad, but it happens.

Bottom line here is: It is not the band's biggest concern what a few die-hard fans think of Dennis getting the "shaft." It wasn't too long ago that DDY didn't care if T&J got the shaft. Everyone felt shafted, and mostly cared about preserving their own livelihoods above what "we" thought or cared about. Twelve years later, it's just business as usual, Toph. It's genuinely not personal anymore to them. They've just become a separate entity from the thing they created with Dennis many years ago (like it or hate it).

I'm sure that JY and Tommy,if pressed,would admit that they would love it if all the Styx fans in history would side with them and love the current lineup as it is, but they are not that deluded. They get that Dennis was a strong force in the hayday Styx and that there are people who will remain loyal to him. But that's not going to stop them from doing what they need to do.

I have honestly no idea HOW MUCH of the DDY removal is legality-related and how much was personal, but I do know that some of it was certainly a legality issue. They knew some people wouldn't see it that way, but like I said, they're just doing what they gotta do in those cases. They know fans like you exist. They know fans like Froy exist. They also know that they've played hundreds of shows to cheering fans and been paid well for it. For a bunch of guys whose "glory" career ended twenty years ago, that's nothing to sneeze at.

There comes a point, Toph, when people like you and me, who have strong opinions on the subject are faced with a choice: Do we keep beating our drums, saying the same old shit to whoever will listen (but has no ability to help or change anything), or do we accept things the way they are and deal with it?

Dude. I could literally spend days pulling posts from members in this forum alone who have "pointed out" this very thing on a steady and regular basis. This posts is one of hundreds, possibly thousands like it, as are the replies. It's no longer an observation, it's an obsession. If it's that emotionally upsetting for some of you, then take some action. Or move on. I promise, you've made your point already.

One of the great things about DDY is that he has moved on, and he seems to be trying to put positive vibes out there. That should speak for itself. The incessant whining & bellyaching doesn't serve him.

You know Zan, I would, honestly, shut up about the whole thing, if the current version of the band didn't go out of its way to try and alienate DDY fans and by purposely erasing his contributions and presence. It's the revisionist history that really irks me. They are full of shit and if they continue to be full of shit in their actions, then DDY fans will call them out on it. If they would just stop the petty bullshit, then the abuse that they get from our side would diminish significantly. Go on your tours, play your shit, make your cash, but don't purposely do things to piss the Dennis side of the fan base off by intentionally pulling stunts that diminish his place in the band's history. Seriously, is that too much to ask?

Tommy and JY couldn't give a rats ass about those who are or were fans of Dennis' contributions to the band. The only reason they include the DDY songs in their set list is because they have to. If they didn't those songs would be gone from their set list in a heart beat.

Apparently, it is.

It's like this: Dennis has his fans, Tommy has his, JY has his, etc. Some of us like it all, but some of us have our preferences. Some of us have deep emotional ties to the band's legacy, and some of us don't. The band knows this, but in the grand scheme of it all, it's a business before it is anything. We can go back to playing chicken or the egg with regard to the split and water under their bridges (though, I'd rather have a pap smear to be wholly honest), but once lawyers got involved in "Styx," the rules changed. Everyone knew going into the legalities that this would forever change things, for better or worse, and everyone chose to move forward with it because to them, the alternatives weren't working for them (I am NOT laying blame anywhere. All sides had their "stuff" going on. I'm only saying that lawyers needed to be involved because there was no other way to settle their grievances).

To top it off, there are deep resentments among some of the players now, probably have been all along, but now there is no chance of reconciliation. It's sad, but it happens.

Bottom line here is: It is not the band's biggest concern what a few die-hard fans think of Dennis getting the "shaft." It wasn't too long ago that DDY didn't care if T&J got the shaft. Everyone felt shafted, and mostly cared about preserving their own livelihoods above what "we" thought or cared about. Twelve years later, it's just business as usual, Toph. It's genuinely not personal anymore to them. They've just become a separate entity from the thing they created with Dennis many years ago (like it or hate it).

I'm sure that JY and Tommy,if pressed,would admit that they would love it if all the Styx fans in history would side with them and love the current lineup as it is, but they are not that deluded. They get that Dennis was a strong force in the hayday Styx and that there are people who will remain loyal to him. But that's not going to stop them from doing what they need to do.

I have honestly no idea HOW MUCH of the DDY removal is legality-related and how much was personal, but I do know that some of it was certainly a legality issue. They knew some people wouldn't see it that way, but like I said, they're just doing what they gotta do in those cases. They know fans like you exist. They know fans like Froy exist. They also know that they've played hundreds of shows to cheering fans and been paid well for it. For a bunch of guys whose "glory" career ended twenty years ago, that's nothing to sneeze at.

There comes a point, Toph, when people like you and me, who have strong opinions on the subject are faced with a choice: Do we keep beating our drums, saying the same old shit to whoever will listen (but has no ability to help or change anything), or do we accept things the way they are and deal with it?

This board is great for sharing videos and stories and whatnot, but the soapbox stuff is just a waste of time. I think you know that. You and I both know that the band and their management don't give a flip about this kind of stuff, and the rest of us have read it a thousand times over already.

People in this forum "deal with it" in different ways. Neither is 100% right or wrong. So the way I see it is the folks that post here have no right to dictate how people reply or post topics. Maybe people need to move on from the fact that just because they do not share the same viewpoint that someone shouldn't post it here.
