T.O.- Kind Of

GREAT GREAT music day for me yesterday. Dream Theatre's & Staind's new albums both arrived. I cant wait to give them both good listens. When that will happen???? I am also really hoping to see Dream Theatre October 27 at their show near Dallas. Anyone from here going???

I wonder if Todd ever considered the Dream Theatre drumming gig once Portnoy left. I hear that the new guy is great but Todd is a TOTAL monster. I also read somewhere(maybe here) that Dream Theatre was named one of the top 10 Prog Rock bands of all time.

Staind also rules. 'Time Of My Life' from 3 Doors Down is probably their best album to date. 'Dear Agony' from Breaking Benjamin is AWESOME. Nickleback is about to come out with a new album, and I also read that Shinedown is in the process of new material.

The music is as good now as it was back in the day!!!!

Todd is really good and could hold his own as a member of Dream Theater, but Mike Mangini is just uncanilly talented. He plays Mike's parts effortlessly and can do some crazy shit on his own.

The new Dream Theatre is very good, I think I'm picking up tickets for the Pittsburgh show.

Yes, Jethro Tull, King Krimson, Rush, Styx, Moody Blues, ELP, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Procul Harum. No room for DT in that top ten. Even ASIA is better than Dream Theater.

The drummers that auditioned to be Portnoy's replacement were "considered" not the other way around. I like Todd and he's a great "rock" drummer, but he's not even in the same class as these guys. Mike Mangini (current drummer) can do things on the kit with one hand that most can't do with two. When I read your line, "I hear the new guy is great but Todd is a TOTAL monster" I about fell out of my chair. Go to this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L609JsPFmmI and tell me what you think.

I preferred Phobia to Dear Agony by Breaking Benjamin. I considered Dear Agony something of a let down after Phobia. Phobia is a monster album.

I just picked up the new Anthrax. Not prog by any stretch, but took me back to my youth. FIGHT 'EM!

Also recently have taken a liking to Maroon 5 and Coldplay. Parachutes by Coldplay is a terrific album.

Nickelback sucks. Formulaic and predictable. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2pXfAK8r1k If you don't believe me. They're a god awful band.

The new Night Ranger is fabulous! It really surprised me. They went a rock direction and it sounds amazing.

A guilty pleasure: Swan Songs by Hollywood Undead. LETS GET THIS PARTY STARTED!

Oh and the new Parachutes is great too! It's the name of the band. Not confusing them with Coldplay.

I have to laugh at some of the comments here. As an all-around drummer, Todd blows away those other two. They play one style, fast and with their little tricks. It becomes stale after a while.

Just purchased my Dream Theatre tickets for Oct 27 in Grand Prarie, Tx at the Verizon Theatre. Sitting in row LL. I am jacked about this show. I have never seen them and they are a GREAT GREAT band.

I really like their new album and the video on how they chose their new drummer (Mike Mangini) is great. I may have chosen the German guy (who smiled all the time). The process how they choose the drummer was awesome. They seem like a good bunch of very intelligent musically gifted individuals. They are sure 100% committed to their band and the members in that band.

What a great band. I cant wait to see them live.

As for Portnoy & Mangini etc.... being that much better than Todd I dont know. Todd is asked to play a certain way being in Styx.He does not stray too far from the way John played the songs. That is what they asked Mangini to do in the tryout in phase 1. Keep it close to Portnoy. If Todd were in a band like Dream Theatre or allowed to do a drum solo like Styx did back in the day I believe that he would be in that class or better. He is a monster drummer!!

Dream Theatre's 'A Dramatic Turn of Events' debuted in The Billboards top 200 albums at #8. Staind debted at #5.

I cant wait to see Dream Theatre. I sure hope they play Sacrificed Sons, The Ministries of the Lost Souls, Forsaken, and The Answer Lies Within. From their new album I would love to hear Lost But Not Forgotten & On The Back Of Angels.

Dream Theatre tickets just arrived. I am jacked for this show!!!

On a side note, I also ordered Toph's DDY book . Figured I'd throw a little$$$$ at him & Chuck. How on earth did Tophy write over 300 pages on that subject????

WOW I just hijacked my own 'Assembly Line'.

P.S. I just logged onto: www.amazon.com and Toph's book is up to #67 in nonfiction. It is still paired with Chuck's book.
