So will Cyclorama be the last album of all new material EVER from Styx??

That album was great!!!

I find it soooooooooo damn hard to believe that a band filled with such talent would stop making new music. So damn what if they lose some money. They have made a killing as a touring band. Why not create something new? They are artists and I always heard that artists need to create.

Dream Theatres 'A Dramatic Turn Of Events' is sooo damn good. What if they would have stopped creating new material when Portnoy quit? No Grammy nomination for them. In their careers They have had 1 Gold album & 0 Platinum album total. Yet they are still relevant today.

I am stunned that they would just pack it in and turn into an oldies jewelry wearing, ice capades playing coffee shop band.

I think that Glen Burtnik is why Cyclorama was so great. The few new songs that they've done since his departure are god-awful.

Glen may have been a huge factor as to why Cyclorama was so good. Still I honestly believe if you get Tommy, JY, Larry, Chuck, Ricky & Todd in a room & then in a recording studio and they pour all their talents & hearts into a project it would be GREAT!!!

I think the answer to your question is they just are not interested in that part of the business anymore.

Recording new music would interfere with the jewelry business. So, probably not.

As far as Cyclo goes; Tommy has some great stuff like One With Everything, Waiting for Our Time, Together, Do Things My Way and Yes I Can. JY's is pretty typical for his stuff... nothing special. Glen's Killing The Thing That You Love is excellent, but Kiss Your Ass Goodbye is awful... even worse on Welcome to Hollywood. Lawrence's two tracks are by far the worst and not because I want Dennis back in the band. They just plain suck. Overall it's a pretty solid album with Tommy carrying most of the load.

I love the whole CD.

Same here. They could do something good, but they seem to lack the courage, and direction and the will to make that step.

Larry two songs had an erlier DDY feel to it. and JY's Capatin America was good. But his These Are The Times is one of the top 3 songs on the cd, along with Kiss and One With Everything.

But these are IMO.

I'm with you on These are the times.JY certainly pulled one out of the hat on this one.My favourite track on Carrot.

As to yoggis initial question,guess there is just not any desire in Styx land for going in the studio and trying to come up with 10-12 songs
for a new album.

I think they'll eventually get back with DDY for that one last cash grab and we'll get a new album out of it.

Also I think Killing The Thing That You Love and especially Kiss Your Ass Goodbye are great tracks. KYAG was killer on Welcome to Hollywood and Burtnik is a great song writer.

On an aside does anyone know if Glen is getting ready to release a new album because he has a few new singles that he's released on Itunes.

Glen had input on Tommy's songs though. Listen to what Tommy has written since Glen left. It's just awful.

I don't think we'll hear anything new from JY. He seems completely uninterested in making anything new. I think you'll hear new things from Gowan as a solo artist. Tommy is controlling Styx now and it's his band. Dennis would be shocked by such a dictatorship

Just got through listening to Cyclorama for the first time in a long while. GREAT!!!!

Kiss Your Ass Goodbye, These Are The Times, Killing The Thing That You Love, One With Everything are all AWESOME.

Do Things My Way & Waiting For Our Time are excellent. More Love For The Money very good. The song for some reason that really grabbed me today was Yes I Can. That song is softer than Babe or First Time but its damn good.

Captain America is typical JY, and I never liked Fields of The Brave or Together..... still dont. The last song is absolutely horriffic, but Styx almost always ends their albums with non factor type songs.

Will always love the way Billy Bobs Pig song led into Kiss Your Ass Goodbye. Always will love the way Kiss Your Ass Goodbye leads into Bam on Glen's Classic album Welcome To Hollywood. Kiss Your Ass Goodbye is a GREAT GREAT song and should have been the first single off of Cyclorama.

If this is their last album EVER it was a very good effort. I still cant believe that with all the cash they have raked in over the past 10+ years that they wouldnt pony up and record again.

Will always love the music but in the past year I have lost all respect for them because of the way they have handled their business.

I've said it before but "These Are The Times" is not that great of a song. There was a reason it was rejected the first time around. Captain America I can live with but it is missing that classic keyboard solo.

Not a great song IYO, but a great song IMO.

I never heard the original version of the song, so I can't say why it wasn't used.

It's an OK song. I like parts and don't like others. It sounds a bit like JY is trying too hard at times, but I know what they were going for. Sort of a mix between Miss America and Castle Walls. While I liked it at first, didn't really age well for me.

I'm gonna download Cyclorama and listen to it. If I like it I may buy it... but I don't expect to be able to stomach Lawrence Gowan. Dennis vs Larry shit aside, I just really don't care much for what he brings to the table musically.

I, chronic complainer of most things Gowan, actually like his contributions on this album. It's the "any live version of any DDY classic song I've ever seen Gowan perform makes me throw up in my mouth" that I have issue with.
