What if..........?

What if Dennis won the rights to the name Styx? What would Styx be like today? Would there be a Styx at all?
I think Styx would have been turned into a musical at a small theater in Chicago with a short run and never heard from again.

I will say it would be better than What If

I doubt that. 100 years from now wasn't Broadway. But it doesn't mean that some of the tunes wouldn't be theatrical.

They would be forced to change their name...to Stynx. Long overdue, in my opinion.

I thought 100 Years had a lot of theatrical stuff on it. Other than a few songs, it was a great album.

Why not? That is what his solo shows were for a couple years after he was guillotined...and more interest in Hunchback, and Dalmatians.

DDY did do the rock show, but in the early part of his post-Styx career he concentrated more on the orchestral show, not Hunchback (that was done for the most part in 1997/8 sans the workshop in Chicago a few years back) and 101 Dalmatians wasn't a huge time suck it appears. He was doing 100 Years around that time and heavily touring the rock thing at that point.

DDY has said in interviews (including mine) that he was basically starting over. So he built things over time. Nothing wrong with that.

Seems to me that the orchestral shows included at least a couple Hunchback songs. In fact, it seems to me that I personally saw that at the concert I saw. It also seems to me that during his PBS tour he was promoting the idea of bring a Hunchback production to PBS. In fact, I have it on VHS again from his tour stop here.

He never gave up on Hunchback...ever. He can say in interviews that he 'started over' But, it's bullshit. His actions prove otherwise.

Dennis went from a half filled theater to playing a rib fest here. So, unless he is willing to do another free concert, I doubt he will be performing here...But, if he does do a free concert, I would go see him.

But, it is NOT Styx.

He played to a full (paying) theatre at Governor's State University just this last year.....you seriously need to come up with some new and better material :?

That is nowhere near where I live. I'm not going to travel four hours on the road to see Dennis DeYoung, or any other band.

He simply does not sell tickets very well in the central Iowa area. That's the truth. I'm not saying he can't sell tickets to his nieghbors in IL, or anywhere else.......just not in central Iowa.

To vote in the caucus you have to declare yourself a Democrat or Republican...I am neither and never will be.

If I were voting, I would have voted for Ron Paul....because all of the Republican candidates suck and none of them can beat Obama.

Dennis sold out the Seneca Niagara Casino on June 25th, 2010. Roughly 1,500 seats. Prices were from $25 to $45 No one else associated with Styx can do that on their own except for him.

To be fair, Styx has played many of the same rib fests, too. An example:

Styx on their own plays the same size venues most of the time. As a package tour, no. Most bands of their ilk play 1500 - 2500 seaters ... or smaller.
