Proof that a new DDY album could be absolutely epic

Postby Archetype » Thu Jan 26, 2012 7:29 am

Do you have a couch? Ok good.

Go to it, dig out $0.99, and BUY THIS SONG

This is the latest single release from Tom Sharpe, Dennis's drummer. He's not only a great drummer/percussionist; he's a virtuoso pianist and composer as well. Do yourself a HUGE favor and buy this track. His next album is due to be released sometime this year.

While you're at it, but his 2002 album "Like Setting Myself On Fire" if you don't have it.

Dennis has to do a new album, and he needs to give Tom creative input.

Well Everett. If you had bought your Regeneration albums at Walmart, you would have saved a dollar.
Then you could have let me borrow that dollar, and I might have taken a chance on this kinda John Tesh sound alike kind of 1 and a 1/2 min.
sound sample.I don't don't know if I am really ready to invest that kind of money.
It's a little tight this month with Christmas just over, and that kind of jizz.

Maybe I'll just enjoy my couch .

I've never heard of John Tesh before...I'm loving his stuff :D Treat yourself to some Tom Sharpe. I'll send you some cans to recycle if your couch search isn't fruitful

I think for the most part Dennis' recording days are over. His last comment was not to expect anything at this point since he had no intentions of working on any new recordings. OYFN came about because the label approached him. It is is all up to Dennis to provide the motivation of a new album I think it will not happen.

How does one "prove" something "could" happen based on an opinion?

Just curious.

As long as people continue to draw conclusions then look for proof to back it up, instead of the other way around, there will never be rest in the Styx kingdom.

Dennis and Styx both have played some shitty venues and had disappointing turnouts. So has my band. So has every band. BFD.

If you like the music, go see a show. One day, you won't have the option anymore.

AND won't that suck?

You'll be wishing you could see them in a parking lot or pig roast or carnival just one more time.

Exactly, Laurie. They've both played some great and some not-so-great venues. They get paid either way. How much do the folks posting these videos get paid for their efforts? Is there some sort of reward? I don't understand what any of this is supposed to prove.

Laurie, I know you've been saying this for years now, and I wholeheartedly agree with you: These guys won't be around forever. We've already lost 2. Not to mention, one day they might wake up and decide they've had a bellyfull of this crap and retire.

What then? Onto the next forum?

I just wanted to balance out the "venue" war.

I'm so happy to see my bands play any place, yes any place! I especially like to go to places where they don't charge $75+ for a ticket plus the ticket charges, unless it's a show with a symphony/orchestra, then I want to sit in a decent seat, relax and enjoy the show. Otherwise, I love the smaller venues, more than anything. Bands/musicians interact with the audience more and they're more fun!

I don't like saying it, but most of the bands/musicians that I grew up with are starting to tour less won't be around forever. :(

Hmm let's look at Styx.

You have Tommy Shaw who looks like he hasn't taken a bath in years, Gowan who looks like a cross dresser, Todd who has become a fat ass, Chuck...looks everybit as gay as he is, Ricky Phillips - don't even know what to do with him. Never thought that JY would look the most normal of the bunch....

I never have posted on this forum....but wow, it is looking like the Journey forum....

IMHO that post is a bit harsh....I have known a bunch of those guys over the years, including Dennis, I worked with him on 2 separate projects and other things...but some of those comments are pretty mean spirited, and to be honest have nothing to do with music...but maybe I am wrong...been wrong before!!!

I am a pretty big fan of theirs as well, too bad when it becomes a pissing match and a personal attack fest instead of discussion over music, direction, songwriting, albums ect.

I hope it's not shoot the new guy day.....I just read this forum a lot, and thought I would jump out of mine, and post for once on this one....I for one am happy Styx is still going, and of course would love if DDY was allowed back...but, at least they both are still doing what they love to do....

Welcome to the forums, JV. Unfortunately, you are late to the party. All the relevant and pleasant conversations left somewhere around 2005. Now, it's mostly a playground for the haters whose favorite sound is the clicking of their own keyboards.

Nice to "meet" you, though. Glad you dropped in.

I'm sure it has occurred to both of you at some point that posting these videos with such commentary will provoke the other side to do react in kind. My guess is that you need the banter, despite the fact that it's about as stimulating as walking in circles. Don't you ever get tired of it?

Agree Zan. This is old and a major reason I don't post here much. I'm over it. Why does anyone give a shit if they played a backyard BBQ or Wembley Stadium? There's virtually no bands (sans maybe the Stones who live on reputation alone at this point IMO) playing massive venues as large or larger than they did "back in the day". Most 10 - 20,000 seat arena rock bands are doing sheds and/or under 5,000 seat venues - often as part of a multi-bill act. GET OVER IT. Jeez.

I've said many times here and in other places that anything after 1996 was pretty much a gift. In 2012, we can still hear the music of Styx played live by members of the band even if they're not all in the same one. Anyone who thinks we're not closer to the end than the beginning is delusional. I can forsee a time within the next 5 years where we may not have the option to see either DDY or Styx.

I'm sorry, did you say something?

Guys, I just want to hear a Tom Sharpe/Dennis DeYoung collaboration.
