What was the styx song or album that got you into them

I remember being 11 in 1976 and being in bed listening to the radio under the covers so my mom would not tell me to turn it off and the song Crystal Ball coming on a pirate radio station called Radio Luxembourg, from then on I was hooked

I went out and purchased the album and immediately loved the title song, This Old Man and Ballerina .....

I was passingly familiar with a couple of songs beforehand, but the song that first hooked me (preparing for the stoning) was Mr. Roboto. Loved it, bought the album, the Caught in the Act when it came out... and backtracked into everything else from there. Say what ya will, but here's a living, breathing example of the song finding new fans, for their new AND old material.

The Paradise Theater - biggest album in Central Florida by a long shot when I was about 11.

My first exposure to Styx was Lady. Heard it a lot when listening to late night AM radio. Loved the song. Somehow I never knew at the time it was Styx. Later on my bother gave me his cassettes of Gi and PO8. I was hooked by those two albums. Nnot really a specific song on them. I wore those tapes out. Probably the most I ever played two cassettes in my life.

In 1977. I was 12, and heard "Fooling Yourself" on the radio. Fell in love with the song, bought the album. Full-blown obsession began with Po8 the next year. Bought Equinox and Crystal Ball LPs. Didn't have any interest in earlier Styx albums, as I was a fan of Tommy's music more than DDY's.

Renegade. Saw them live for the first time on tour with Journey and REO Speedwagon I believe...back in 2002? Wow. I was so impressed with their live performance. They really sounded great and looked like they were having a blast.

The song "Lady." I had never heard harmonies like that before. Plenty of good/great harmonies (The Beatles), but nothing like that.

Love Styx but as far as harmonies go, plenty of bands that are better. Beach boys, four seasons, kansas to name a few off the top of my head.

harmonies are both subjective and objective.....objective being did they hit the right note and subjective being how does the blend sound to your ears?? i think styx was like alot of the other bands that from an objective standpoint did their jobs and hit the right notes.

from a subjective standpoint you either think they are one of the best or not....and that's the great thing about music....you think the beach boys are better I dont.....i dont like the beach boy blend most times it's just not a sound I like as much....so I much prefer styx but i cant say one is better than the other....i just prefer one.

and as for kansas you are kind of comparing apples to oranges becuase the vast majority of their harmonies were just robby singing harmony with steve or vice versa.......very seldom did they engage in the big three part styx hamornies because they didnt have the third voice in the band to pull it off live. they sounded great together but it was a different thing than what styx mostly.

Well since my mom had to drive me to school everyday to make sure i would go, she had on the arch allies cd every morning. At first i HATED it but after a while i figured what the hell and "borrowed" that cd and was blown away. Then as the years went on i bought all the old albums and have been hooked ever since.
