Some early themes
Surprising amount of love for Love At First Sight....
Outside of that one and Show Me the Way....little love for DDY's Edge offerings (some really weak ones...)
Lots of love for acoustic Tommy Shaw
JY's Half Penny Two Penny a hidden gem that needs to be dusted off....

Half Penny is not just one of JY's best songs, it's one of the best songs Styx ever did. Great, great rocking tune!

Great topic. I'm going to assume you meant VOCAL only and not writing or anything:
DDY Top:
Castle Walls
Come Sail Away
Pieces of Eight
DDY Bottom:
Great Expectations
Music Time
Carrie Ann
TS Top:
Just Get Through This Night
One With Everything
Love in the Midnight
TS Bottom:
She Cares
Never Say Never
Wishing Well (cover off BBT)
JY Top:
Midnight Ride
Half Penny
These Are the Times
JY Bottom:
Eddie
Homewrecker
Heavy Metal Poisoning
I actually *like* HMP and Homewrecker, as wel as Never Say Never, but I feel they are the weakest on the food chain.

Oh good god - how could I forget High Crimes and Misdemeanors?. But since I can't take Music Time out either, I'd like to opt for a split like Toph did and let them tie for second.
And I need to swap Wishing Well for Number One. That song was just awful. (Tho, the bridge was cool)

Those are just 2 songs I cannot stand. Boat on a River is seriously overplayed during their live shows. When I'm listening to a CD with that song on there I skip it every time. Just Get Through This Night is bad from the first note. Everything about that song says "wussy". Well, maybe not the first note... but as soon as he starts singing. And I love Tommy Shaw's voice... just not when he starts singing that song.

What?? I thought it was Dennis who only wrote those "wussy" songs in Styx.

I am surprised that there are no votes for Babe in top 3.
We are often reminded here that it was their only #1 song,
and that Dennis was the mastermind behind that.

Babe is actually a decent song. The thing I DON'T dig about it is the keyboard used.
Have you ever seen the VH1 unplugged version where they do it on acoustic piano?
Man, WHAT a difference. THAT version made me like the song much more.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5WiSgqhfZc
They should've recorded it like that.
I can never cite the best stuff, I can only cite the worst...
For Dennis, the worst songs would be
First Time
High Crimes and Misdemeanors
Mr. Roboto, though I can see why people like it. It's fun to play
For Tommy, the worst would be
She Cares
JY, the worst would be
the live versions of Miss America
Eddie
Shooz to me is a great rock tune with some excellent guitar work and a killer Shaw vocal. Not sure why people don't like this one. Probably the heaviest, non-damn yankees song he did.
Ballerina from Dennis is a great song that never gets mentioned too. Has he ever done that live?
Half Penny Two Penny was a great one as was the recorded version of Great White Hope. The whole intro to that song alone was awesome.

I love Shooz. I wish Tommy would break out his slide playing more often. And, his vocals on that song were great.
As for Babe, I just can't get past my own thought that it should have never been a Styx song. Just kept it as a personal song from DDY to Suzanne. In fact, I wish all of Cornerstone had been handled differently. Yes, I understand the need to change things up a bit, to move beyond GI and Po8, but they really made a huge turn away from them. Cornerstone could have been much better if it would have had more rock and less sap. I never had a problem with Boat on the River, but Babe and First Time were just way out there. Never Say Never was just "eh" in my book. Lights is great; if Dennis was determined to be more commercial, they could have followed that vein and recorded more songs like that--pop rock rather than pablum.

I actually like the live Miss America on CITA better than the original. Like how he speaks the last verse, the guitar has a bigger raw sound to it, and an DDY is awesome on the keyboard, the last half smokes!
