yeh that was a great comment! I loved it.

The only problem is would be there would not be a band ...... only when Dennis wanted there to be one would there be a band, so the idea of headliners would be invalid.

30-40 dates every a year is plenty. There's no reason to tour the name into the ground. It's smarter to keep the demand up rather than saturate the market.

Amen. Quantity does not equal quality in terms of number of songs on an album or in number of dates to tour. JY and Tommy don't seem to get that.

Are you saying,that if Styx only played 30-40 gigs a year,you would go?

Are you saying,that if Styx only played 30-40 gigs a year,you would go?

Let me make this clear. You can oversell yourself to where you lose your specialness. That is exactly what Styx has done. Do you think that the fact that they come every 8 months or so with just a new set of packaged bands (in many cases the same band partners) makes going to see them very special? They don't have new material so you aren't going to hear new stuff. How many times can a fan hear Blue Collar Man? Because as has been well documented, they only play about 1/3 of their biggest songs in concert and keep going back to the well. How special is that? I would guarantee you if they came every 2-3 years, it becomes a much bigger event. Now its like - well I miss them in June, they'll be back in March.

And as for # of songs on an album, both BNW and Cyclo proved that more isn't always better....

Having said that, it's a great interview, as Dennis' always are. His "vision" for the band of being a really eclectic entity makes a lot of sense and has a lot to do with why the band did so well. That is one of the good things about Styx, but some of those songs I just didn't dig and hated to see the band go so far down the road with some of those ideas.

It's pretty apparent that Dennis is trying to be INCREDIBLY diplomatic with regards to his former bandmates which is cool.

I would guarantee you if they came every 2-3 years, it becomes a much bigger event. Now its like - well I miss them in June, they'll be back in March.

...and again in May, when they'll play at your kid's backyard birthday party...followed by a short gig at the local Chuck E. Cheese opening for a guy in a rat costume.

That's all good and well,but you still wouldn't go would you?
These guys like to tour more than 30-40 days a year,so there you go.
They are playing for the ones who show up,be it 200,500,1000 or 3000.
Not the ones who sit on a Styx site picking everything apart that they do and complain.
Yes,if you missed Styx in June,you can catch them in March.
If they did what you liked them to do and only played every 3 years,think if you missed them at the show when they came to town,
it would be another 3 years before they came through again,so that would be a 5 or 6 year gap for a chance to see them.
But I do agree with you about a stale set list.
