A comparison above. So with Styx, you get 2 songs you don't get with Dennis - neither of which most fans in attendance will know. With Dennis you get 7 songs you don't get with Styx and 6 of the 7 most fans in attendance will know. After leaving, which one feels more like a Styx concert in song content?

Styx plays bulk of material from '77 Illusion up through '80 Paradise album.Of course we already know they dislike '83's Kilroy album.

Dennis plays more ballads but also material past 1980.

Face it. You blindfold a random fan (no, not a crazy die hard like you people) and have them sit through both concerts. You then ask them, ok you've heard two bands and their songs selections, which one was Styx? 99% of people will say its Dennis's bands. He really should bill himself as the one act that gives you all the Styx hits. Because by far and away his set list is much closer to what the average fan wants to hear than Styx's.

Seriously even though i'm not that big enough fan of his I still see dennis

it's still a great show all the way around.

I support both acts. Tix for Styx on July 7 and DDY on July 20. I used to see Styx 4-5 times a year, now I see Dennis 4-5 times a year and Styx 1-2 times a year. Has nothing to do with who I prefer, has to do with how often they are in my area. Styx only comes to New England once a year now, maybe twice. Dennis comes more often.

I love "Styx" music, just depends on who is in the area.

That's just it, he doesn't need the name. He doesn't need a spinning keyboard, fancy stage sets, big screen graphics behind the stage, a coffee brand or jewelry line. The proof is in the pudding. It's his voice and his band that does a excellent job of playing the majority of the songs he is known for. He is proud of what he and Styx created together while his former band mates would rather forget songs that were popular and made them money and their place in the history of R'N'R. Why on earth you would do that is beyond me. If those songs were stiffs and went nowhere I could see wanting to forget about them but, when they were well liked based on how they charted and sold albums it's just odd.

That's one song and not everyone feels the same way about it. For me, i have heard it enough and it's not an issue for me. But, they are still avoiding songs like the Best of Times, Born for Adventure, Show Me The Way, Don't Let it End. These are things that were staple songs for the band. It was those songs and others that made Styx who they were. They were a band with diversity at their core and now they no longer have that diversity. You could apply the fizzled theory to just about every song they have in their set list because they are a band of yesteryear. No longer charting anything.

Except for ignoring songs that were what made them what they are about. Sorry, it just isn't the same when you remove a key player such as Dennis was. You may like it or not but, that is what made Styx great. With the way they are now you are getting only a portion of what was good about them. For me the trappings i.e. visual effects, lighting, stage outfits, fancy "rock" poses wasn't the reason I was going to the shows. I was their to hear them play and sing the songs that made them a great band. Which included the balance of material from all three of them. For me that is all gone.

Lots of trappings in the Kilroy tour i suppose.
Anyways. The Styx mission statement was to be a rock band, and live they are.
If they played the Dennis ballads, they wouldn't be.

And where is that mission statement? Once Again you are full of crap. Their mission statement if they ever had one was to put out the best music they could put out- regardless of style. It is what made them unique. Sorry that goes against JY and Tommy's strengths and they now want this to be and have now created a one dimensional band, with little variety. Maybe it's a lack of interest of talent, but they clearly can't take Styx to a place where they can play music with variety. And if anything goes against the "mission statement" it is that.
