Thanks guys. Sigh what is a diehard to do? I even said to myself (even I can't believe i'm saying it) that
I wish dennis was back in the band. Don't get me wrong I love the guys but a super die hard fan like me
get's tired of the same old thing every single time. Even though i'm not that much of a dennis fan or of
the tommy clone mr. august zandra but at least if he were in the band imo I think it would be a better
show. Yes we get man in the wilderness/i'm ok which is great but I think they could do better. Don't worry
guys i'm not "defecting" to the other side or anything tommy/JY are still my guys I just wonder who do we
have to kill to get a few deeper cuts in? Hell look how long it took for rockin the paradise to get back
in the set. Anyway sorry to bore you guys with my rant here is the setlist as promised.

Blue Collar Man
Grand Illusion
Too Much Time
Lady
Man In The Wilderness
I'm Ok
Crystal Ball
Foolin Yourself
Miss America
Come Sail Away
Rockin The Paradise
Renegade

BTW if you are ever in wisconsin and go to the state fair take out a second mortage on your house.
It is unreal how much everything is. I remembered quickly why I only go every few years.

yeah, that's kind of a drag... I know a local Washington band that plays that and a few more deeper cuts than this! ;)

Well, think about it too, if it's kind of drag for a diehard like yourself, think of how they must feel playing the same tunes each night for years?
That's gotta be really tough. The reality is, that's what the masses want to hear and if they played a lot of "deep cuts" most of the audience would all be flipping out their cell phones to check email. Which is pretty rude actually. It's a drag for the diehard fans because they are stuck hearing the same things tour after tour.

I put on the CYO DVD last night. I still love that DVD because I think the energy of the band and all those kids is a really a cool thing. Anyway, I was amazed after not watching it for a while that they actually did 2 new songs, something off of Big Bang Theory that they hadn't played before, and also two Christmas songs- along with the usual suspects. THAT was a good move by the band and I thought, "wow, that would've been a great show to be at".

Then you put in the GI/PO8 DVD and there are a few things that hadn't been heard live in a few years or ever. Again, a cool show to attend.

I think that what would be VERY cool of the band to do, is do "An Evening with...." and play stuff from ALL points of their career. So maybe one or two of the Wooden Nickel tracks besides "Lady", the hits from the A&M albums, plus a few deeper cuts, some of their newer stuff and market the shows to the hardcore fans.

Journey did a 30 Year concert a few years ago when Augeri was in the band. They were LONG shows and there were a lot of songs from the very first Journey albums (pre-Perry), plus a lot of deep cuts, and the hits. With the bootlegs of these shows, you can hear a lot in the audience yelling out "Play something we know, etc.". Some in the audience obviously didn't read the marketing literature for the show! The band eventually got to a lot of the hits, but because Journey kind of started in chronological order, a lot of the peeps were confused and even thought at times it was an opening band. As a hardcore Journey fan I listened to those boots and thought "Wow, this is a great show". But the specialness of the event was lost on Joe and Emily Sixpack.

If Styx did that, targeted smaller theatres, and MARKETED IT as "for the hardcore Styx fans", I bet they'd surprise themselves with the attendance. It's sure be a great show. It'd also get me to buy a ticket. I'm a hardcore Styx fan, but I've seen them so many times that I just can't justify another ticket, in spite of how great their shows are. I'm supposed to be seeing them in a few weeks via a friend in radio who got some tickets. I look forward to it, but even though they're only about 15 miles down the road, I'm not sure I'd pay to see the show just because it's something I've seen so many times... eh, I probably would! :)

I hear ya bry. Hope you enjoy the show. At least some shows from '99 were recorded when they
played for almost 3hrs every night. Time to put on one of those cd's (yes cd's 8) ) As the "sheep" we are
we will probably go see them at least once a year even though it'll be same o same o.

This is one of the things that happens when you give the boot to a band member that wrote a big chunk of material for the band and you want to avoid playing that stuff.

Yeah, bring Denny back. They would play 12 shows, take a year off so Denny could do Broadway, take another year off for Denny's illness, take another year off because Denny misses his wife, take another year off....

At least with Dennis they might put out a new and original album. Not the re-recorded shit they put out recently.

Are you that thick-skulled? Dennis has toured playing Styx music every year since 2001ish. 40-50 dates a year generally

And for JY, nothing other then playing third fiddle and now second fiddle in Styx has earned him $$.

It's not an argument at all. They are not playing quite a bit of the catalog that they used to when Dennis was in the band. It's just the way things are. I am not advocating that they bring Dennis back or change what they are doing. It is what it is. Period.

They are not playing those songs by their choice. They do a ton of Dennis' stuff and the only ones who whine about it are in this forum. The live audiences for the most part could care less. Present day Styx does not wish to be known for "Babe" and "Roboto". Why is that such an issue for some? Maybe some of the fans go home crying cuz they didn't hear those two songs, but the band goes home knowing they didn't have to play those tunes and they're happy about it. They didn't even play Roboto during the reunion shows or the Grand Illusion 20th tour. Gotta wonder how those discussions went...

If you look at the RTP live sets, there's not MUCH that present Styx doesn't play. "Babe". Okay, that's a pretty personal song for Dennis. "Best of Times". Not really sure why Styx doesn't play it, but they've played a lot of other stuff that wasn't played when they reunited. If Styx doesn't wanna play the tunes they shouldn't. If Dennis wants to play those songs (as well he should, he wrote them and he's the voice for them) then that's fine. Sometimes in a music career, you do songs that you think are a good idea, but in retrospect aren't- FOR YOU. Dennis still plays Roboto and Babe cuz he likes them and he knows people like them. Cool. I highly doubt you'll ever see him singing "The Grove of Eglantine". Though he wrote it, he hates it, but some folks like it. Styx doesn't play those songs because none of those members apparently liked those tunes and they definitely didn't write them. They might've had hits and made money off of them, but now they've decided it's not who they want to be. Shaw wouldn't go out and play "This is not a Test" either. He hates it and he wrote it.

Not really sure why this is still being tossed out all these years later. If you like Dennis, go see him. If you like Styx, go see them. What's the big deal?

100 Years From Now was quite successful and I still hear "I Believe In You" at the supermarket. I bet it has made him some money.

I said it's not a argument. Merely stating the obvious. that when bands split like Styx has they choose not to play certain songs by a member that is no longer present. It's just the way it is. It's what happens. Ii don't think your example of TS's "This is not a Test" applies here. It's more about omitting songs that a band or artist played for years and years and were something that made it into the the charts successfully. It may not be the remaining band member's favorite(s) but obviously the public liked them.

The reality is that I doubt very seriously that DDY needs the money. I don't think that is the major motivation for him at this stage. In fact, I believe in a an interview he said that he wasn't dong these things for the money.

Nobody's making it a big deal. You did. They were having a friendly discussion before your meaningless 2 cents were thrown in. The thread may have started out a bit different, but the author (Everett) began discussing both sides. I'm not blaming him by any means, merely saying that any one of us can talk about whatever the fuck we want. Jackass.
